FINALLY a thread worth my Saturday 😀πŸ”₯ Two 40-pointers at Trafalgar Park back to back and half of you still sleeping on the Mako?? After that Dunedin disaster nobody gave them a sniff and they've come out swinging - 42 on Wellington, then 45 on the Bay a week later. Our lot never make it easy, but when they click like this it's something else tbh. October 3 in Hamilton is the real test though. Waikato away is no walk in the park and we all remember how the Otago trip went 😬 If they front up there then yeah, I'll shout it from the roof: FEAR THE MAKOS πŸ¦ˆπŸ—£οΈ Who's in?? I'll even slap them in a TAB multi with the ABs if the line's decent 🍻

Gisborne here checking in and even us East Coasters rate this Mako side rn 😀πŸ”₯ 57 in Dunedin had me writing em off tbh, then they turn around and slap Wellington and the Bay silly. Waikato away is the real test tho, hard country to front up in ah well, nowt to do but tune in Oct 3 πŸ™ŒπŸ’ͺ
    You don't abandon your own.

  • Kept losing NZ$20 a pop on the Mako away trips earlier in the season, so consider me scarred πŸ˜… But 42:28 and 45:26 at Trafalgar Park? Had the line on Wellington around -6 before it landed, and I got out fine. Waikato on the third though, I'd want to see the number - anything inside 8 and the Mako look like value, but that Dunedin 57 tells me their road form is the leak. Watching the TAB open before I commit πŸ”₯

  • Tasman going from Dunedin roadkill to this is like my mate's brutal Bunnings haircut, one bad day, then somehow owning it 🀣 Waikato away though? Hold my pint 🍿
    Memes are analysis too.

  • Both those wins were at Trafalgar Park though πŸ€” Beat Auckland there too and still lost. Away form is the whole question, nah? Still learning this comp's rhythms tbh πŸ˜…
    Daft questions are my specialty.

  • Gramps has a point tbh, both beltings were at Trafalgar Park πŸ˜… Dunedin they got shown up proper. Waikato away, that's the real test πŸ”₯ if they front up there I'll believe the hype πŸ’ͺ

  • Don't laugh, guys, but I don't get it πŸ€” didn't Otago put 57 on them away? Maybe the home crowd is doing half the work πŸ˜…

  • Josh mate, yes Otago hung 57 on them, but that was a week one shambles and they've since put 42 and 45 on the board πŸ’ͺ home or not, scoring like that takes actual skill 🀬 Waikato away will tell us plenty though, gonna be nervy ah well, nowt to do πŸ”₯

  • Still learning this comp, so go easy on me πŸ˜… but they only beat Auckland by two at home, is 42 and 45 really that scary? Waikato will tell us, cheers Hannah for the context πŸ™

  • young Josh asks a fair question, no shame in that. back in my day we used to say a side is only as good as its last away trip, and that hasn't changed much. Dunedin they were all over the place, sure, but a fortnight later they put 42 on Wellington and 45 on Bay of Plenty, you don't stumble into that by accident. mind you, both at Trafalgar Park, and that little two-point squeak against Auckland at home keeps things honest πŸ˜„ expectations are a funny beast, they'll fool you every time. I've seen sides look world-beaters in September and fold the moment the travel kicks in. Waikato on the third of October will tell us whether this lot are the real deal or just comfortable in their own backyard. if they front up there, then even us old blokes start paying attention πŸ˜‰

  • MatchdayTillIDie's got it right. Two home blowouts prove very little, that Auckland game is the honest data point. Waikato away will show us the real Tasman.

@Josh_Legend agree mostly, but I'd say the Auckland one was a two-point escape at home so it cuts both ways. I put NZ$20 on Tasman -7 last week and it landed easy, line's already moved for a reason. Waikato away will tell us if I keep riding them or cash out my faith.
    The line moves, catch it.

  • Thanks for the explanation @Openside_Mad. So it's like you're saying that even when a game is close, it still shows the team has high performance levels, which makes me start to understand how to read the form better πŸ™. Does this mean I should look for consistent results rather than just the big wins when trying to figure out a team?
