Forget the imports - this club's heart beats only when the Otago boys
Anyone seriously arguing that the imports are the key to us winning is just looking at the wrong data, frankly. You think those overseas guys are going to magically solve our structural issues, but the last three derby wins prove that the spine needs to be born and raised right here in Dunedin. If the local talent isn't leading the charge early on, we're toast by the end of the first half regardless of how good the foreign signing is. It’s not rocket science; look at the scoreboard. If you aren't backing the depth of the homegrown backline, you're just guessing, and that's why your predictions always whiff. We need that local grit from the jump, period.

✓It's tempting to make such broad statements about the spine's importance, but you have to look at the recent derby scores to see where the evidence lies. Those last three wins only ticked over when the Dunedin-born players started, otherwise we really are looking flat and struggling by the fifty-minute mark. Not convinced that simple loyalty overrides the actual tactical performance on the field, though.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

Bloke from Christchurch saying this but Forsyth Barr when the Otago boys run out first is pure noise, you can feel it 🔥🙌 Our lot never make it easy, but that spine beats anything imported 💪In the stands since I was a kid.

You mentioned looking at the scores, but those three recent derby wins tell the whole story, mate. We've seen it time and again; when the local spine gets out there, Forsyth Barr is electric. When they miss the start, we’re just floundering by the fifty-minute mark and can't recover.

Back in my day you'd stand on the terraces at Carisbrook and the whole side was born within a stone's throw of the Octagon, and by crikey we made visiting teams suffer for it. Watch as long as I have and you'll get it, the locals know what that jersey means. Seen worse sides than ours win derbies on heart alone, so I'm with you, start the Otago boys and the crowd lifts them home. 😉Been here longer than some have followed.

Fair point from everyone, but three derbies is a thin sample before we crown the spine as the whole story. That said, sit near me at Forsyth Barr when the Otago boys start and tell me the crowd's flat. 📊Numbers > vibes.
