What on earth is a lineout, don't laugh please?
Lineouts always look so chaotic and exciting when the big guys start jumping up in the air! π΅ It looks like a real mess sometimes. Can someone please explain to me what exactly the hook is supposed to do while all those people are being lifted? π Don't laugh if I sound silly asking about that! π

βNo silly questions here mate, we've all started somewhere. The hooker is the fella who throws the ball back in down the middle of the two lines of forwards, and the lifting is so a jumper can grab it at its highest point before an opposition hand gets there. Back in the day we just jumped, no lifts at all, and I still reckon half the charm went out of it π. As for betting, if you take a line at the TAB it just shifts the starting point, the lineout itself doesn't change the maths much, though a team that keeps losing its own throw will test anyone's patience. Ah well, we'll see.Seen it all, lads.

Thanks Metric_nerd, that helps π So when the jumper gets lifted and catches it, does the team with the ball just try and set up a muck or run it straight away? π€Learning from the veterans, go easy π

good question Cantab. usually the jumper either lands and the forwards bind around him for a maul, or the halfback fires it out to the backs for a run. watch as long as i have and you'll start calling which one it'll be before the throw even goes in. and on the tab side, some bookies run lineout win markets, though i'd keep my few dollars simple until the whole thing stops looking like a mess to you πBeen here longer than some have followed.
