Is Moana Pasifika really worse than the other stragglers?
Moana Pasifika or the other stragglers, who's actually worse this season?
Two wins from fourteen, 276 for and 567 against, five straight losses in Auckland... that reads like a side in real trouble tbh. But watching some of their footy they've thrown the ball around braver than anyone near the bottom of the table. Are they genuinely the worst pack in Super Rugby Pacific, or just cursed with a brutal run and thin depth? I'm asking honestly, cos the table says one thing and the eye test keeps saying another 😤🔥

✓Did you see how consistently the opposition found the gaps in their structure this past weekend? Strictly by the data, Moana Pasifika is considerably underperforming relative to their peers in the Super Rugby Pacific standings. Their current form is abysmal, especially the five straight losses in Auckland, and the 276 goals scored versus 567 conceded paints a grim picture of statistical inconsistency. Given the zero trophies and the extreme disparity between their attack and defence, the verdict is clear that they are currently in dire shape.Numbers > vibes.

The punters only see the scoreboard. Some of them actually show grit out there, even if the stats are grim, eh?Here to argue, not to nod along.

"Braver rugby" isn't a measurable metric, is it? If by 'brave' you mean playing attacking rugby, then yes, they are trying. But if it means putting on a consistent, competitive display that puts you in contention for a top half finish, then the numbers don't support that argument in the slightest. Having 276 points scored while conceding 567 over 14 games suggests the whole operation is fundamentally unsound. We're talking about a difference of 291 points. That disparity isn't merely bad luck; it speaks to a profound lack of defensive organisation and a lack of clinical execution when the opportunity does arise. The form WLLLL in Auckland shows a clear trend rather than isolated incidents. They aren't just cursed; they are failing to operate within the expected parameters of this league, which needs to be the criterion applied here.

watch as long as i have and you'll know a bad season when you see one, and moana's is bad, no arguing the 276-567. but back in my day even the stragglers had nights where they scared someone, and there's still a bit of that out there in auckland. grit's real, josh, it just doesn't show on the ladder. over fourteen rounds though, the table is usually telling the truth, and nine points says plenty 😄Been here longer than some have followed.

I seriously can't believe some people are acting like Moana Pasifika is just all numbers and stuff, ah well, nowt to do. 🔥 You wanna talk about bravery? I remember this one clash against the Hurricanes back when I was playing club and the sheer effort they put in, they were absolute warriors even when the points didn't flow, right? Nah, those averages just aren't the whole story, they're just looking at a paper result instead of the real fight that goes on every week. 💪😱You don't abandon your own.

I could be wrong, but reading this thread most of you lean towards "cursed more than hopeless", the gist being that 276-567 is grim but they keep fronting up in Auckland and trying things, whereas the counter view from Josh and the like is that 11th with 9 points after 14 matches is just a bad side, full stop. My own tables say both are true at once, small sample though the season isn't.Numbers > vibes.
