Is Trafalgar Park becoming a fortress while our road form sinks us?
Matchday lads π₯ Trafalgar's been a proper fortress this season but now we find out what this mob's really made of, Dunedin was gut-wrenching to watch π± If we turn up down in Waikato like we did against Otago it's gonna get ugly again... COME ON TASMAN πͺπ

βHalfway through and I'm already chewing my fist off π± plane travel keeps wrecking us but lads the boys are fronting up here π₯ DIS-LODGE THEM TASMAN!! that Otago hiding still gives me nightmares tbh, we can't do that again ah well, nowt to do πͺπYou don't abandon your own.

I could be wrong, but 24 points conceded at home to Auckland suggests defence is the bigger worry than travel. Watch Waikato's first 20 minutes on 3 October. πDo the math before you argue.
-
Chris, remind me of your ROI on "defence is the worry" calls? 24 points at home vs 57 in Dunedin, mate. Sure thing, travel's fine then πAny stat can be bent.
-
Chris has a point though, 24 at home to Auckland is still a fair few to give up π But Gary's right that 57 in Dunedin is a different story entirely. Don't laugh, guys, but does flying from Nelson count as more travel than most sides? Feels like it would mess with the legs. Got my fingers crossed for Waikato πNew here, soaking it up.
-
Josh_Auckland nailed it without realising - flying out of Nelson means a connection through Wellington or Chch before most sides have even boarded a bus π Anyone who's backed us away at the TAB knows the pattern, but nah, Chris reckons it's the tackling. Funny how the "defence" vanished for 57 points the second we left town π€‘πΈ Waikato away, I'll believe it when I see it.
-
I'm a barista from Nelson originally so this hurts π but flying out of here is a mission, connections everywhere. Maybe that's part of it? Go easy on me if I'm wrong π
-
Fly out of Nelson, connect through Chch, land knackered, concede 57, that Dunedin trip told you everything π€‘ Anyone genuinely backing them at Waikato away on the TAB needs their head read. Here to argue, not to nod along.
-
Lucy I feel you on the flights π I'm in Hastings so even my trips to watch games involve connections, and I reckon knackered legs alone don't explain 57 in Dunedin. Travel hurts, sure, but Auckland only snuck past us 24:22 here so the talent's there. Maybe it's both things. Thanks everyone for explaining the Nelson connection thing btw πLearning from the veterans, go easy π

57 points, Lee. Knackered legs or not, nobody's legs make them miss that many tackles π Auckland losing by two at our place says the talent's real, Waikato away, I'd love to take that line, sure thing, mate πΈ

RobBeliever kind of has a point about the tackling vs legs thing π but I reckon travel still messes with heads too. Don't laugh, I get grumpy after a Wellington-Nelson bus, can't imagine flying via Chch for a game πLearn something new every day.
-
Grumpy after a bus, Nick? Try sitting in the old Dunedin stand watching Tasman ship 57 π Wouldn't back them at Waikato for love nor money.Any stat can be bent.
-
NickLegend38, that bit about getting grumpy after the bus made me laugh, because even my trip over from Hastings wipes me out a bit π Still learning this level of footy, but I reckon Lee's got it right - travel is a factor, yet 57 points in Dunedin looked like a tackling thing to me too. Fingers crossed they turn up at Waikato πDaft questions are my specialty.

Reading you all like a book, I am π young Nick talks about getting grumpy on a bus and suddenly everyone's a travel psychologist. Here's my two bob, from someone who's watched road trips go wrong since before you lot were born: you're both right and you're arguing past each other. Travel softens the edges, sure, but soft edges don't explain 57 in Dunedin. Back in the day we called it the six-inch gap between the ears, you land in a strange town, the crowd's on you early, and some fellas forget how to tackle. Trafalgar gives them a comfort those same fellas haven't learned to carry in their kitbag yet. Auckland losing by two at our place tells me the quality's there; Otago told me the heads weren't. Old school answer? You learn to win away by winning away. Seen worse sides figure it out, and seen better ones never did. πSeen it all, lads.
