Southland vs Northland at Rugby Park on 2 October
FINALLY the boys are back at Rugby Park π₯π₯ two losses in a row stung big time but that 43:12 over Bay of Plenty showed what our lot can do when the Invercargill crowd gets behind them. Northland on the 2nd, you just know the forwards are gonna come out firing ππ and this time the crowd's on their side, chocka with heart, that's all we need!

βCanterbury and Taranaki away trips were rough but Rugby Park at night?? Northland gonna get sucked into a front foot battle π₯ same lads who torched Bay of Plenty, just give them the ball wide tbh π ah well, nowt to do till FridayHeart with the team, head on pause.

Canterbury and Taranaki losses, I steered clear of Southland both weeks and the line landed against them each time. Back home vs Northland, give me Southland -7 and a small multi leg on first try scorer at the TAB π₯The line moves β catch it.

The way this thread's going you'd think the boys already won on Friday π€£ I got so hyped reading it I nearly put my NZ$20 on Southland then remembered my last multi leg died faster than me trying to run in the Bay of Plenty game highlights. Rugby Park at night does things to visiting teams tho, carry on lads ππΏMemes are analysis too.

ha, robbedagain got me chuckling, been there myself more times than i'd admit π i'd back touchline's read, that bay of plenty night was the real southland, and rugby park under lights does funny things to visiting sides. but two away hidings in a row tells me the pack needs to front first, throw it wide all you like, if the forwards get shoved off the ball like they did down in new plymouth, it won't matter who's on the wing. back in my day we reckoned games up north were won in the tight five, and watch as long as i have and you'll get it: nothing changes that much. seen worse starts than this from a southland side, and they've recovered before. my pick? home win, but closer than the punters think, i'd steer well clear of that -7 line myself. frost on the ground in october at rugby park, old saying goes, anything can happen on a cold night in invercargill πBeen here longer than some have followed.

Funny how everyone's forgotten the away form, eh? Two trips, two hidings, and suddenly Rugby Park fixes everything π The Bay of Plenty night was real, sure, but Northland will read that tape. And in reality? I'll believe the bounce-back when I see the first thirty minutes. π€‘Here to argue, not to nod along.

RobbedAgainMerchant has a point about the away form, mind, those Canterbury and Taranaki trips were hard watching. but back in my day we called it simple: the crowd at Rugby Park lifts a side ten points on its own, and the young lot never saw how much that matters on a cold Invercargill night. first thirty minutes will tell us plenty, i'll grant you that πRemember when the grass was greener π±

MatchdayTillIDie, "crowd lifts a side ten points"? That same crowd watched Taranaki run in half a hundred on us π First thirty will tell you everything, so quit the nostalgia. π€‘It's a lottery, not sport.

Model_Head, that Taranaki night hurt as much as anyone here, no need to tell me twice. I watched it through my fingers, same as the rest of you π but the crowd point is old school for a reason. Back in the day I stood on the terraces at Rugby Park in weather that would freeze the cheekbones off you, and visiting sides genuinely hated it. Northland flying down from up north into a cold Invercargill evening? That counts for something. My caveat is the first twenty minutes though - agree with robbedagain there. Canterbury and Taranaki both had us chasing the game early, and you can't chase against good sides away from home. If Southland land the first proper shot in front of their own crowd, I reckon the place lifts them like matchday says. Seen it all before, and it usually starts with the forwards going straight ahead. Pick your team and stop worrying about the tape, northland still have to play the forty minutes after halftime too πSeen it all, lads.

Funny how everyone's a tactician til kickoff. Northland away from home are a different beast, eh? I'd take Southland plus whatever the TAB's giving if I was still punting π
-
Ultra88, felt much the same through my fingers that Taranaki night. Crowd helps, sure, but the first thirty decides it. Ah well, we'll see.Seen it all, lads.

RobBeliever acting like the TAB line is some big secret π€‘ everyone in this thread has already had a cheeky NZ$10 on Southland and knows it. Funny thing is the only night we turned up this season was at Rugby Park, so home turf might actually mean something this time. Backing the boys by double digits, happy to eat that if I'm wrong πAny stat can be bent.

Metric_nerd, mate, you've got it right, those first thirty against Taranaki cost them the night, and Andy's onto something with Rugby Park meaning something. Funny thing, I've been trudging into Invercargill a few times over the years and that ground has always had a bit of bark to it when the crowd's up. That 43:12 over Bay of Plenty was no fluke, but the Canterbury and Taranaki trips showed the away form needs fixing quick smart. Keep the young fellas patient, weather the opening stanzas, and Northland will feel it late πWatch as long as I have and you'll get it.

Remember when we all tipped them big before the Taranaki trip too? eh. Home turf helps, sure, but I've seen plenty of sides fire one week then fade. We'll see Friday night πWatch as long as I have and you'll get it.
