Right, lads. Time we pinch a proper fetcher back from the Force

Word is talks over in Perth have gone proper quiet since March on that lad's deal. Mate reckons even NZ$450k a season hasn't got a signature yet. Bit odd for a fetcher they supposedly rate, eh? If he's actually sitting there unsigned, we'd be mugs not to have a word 😏 And in reality? We probably pay our current No.7 more for half the pilfering.

A mate in Perth who knows a player's contract status. Sure, and I've got a bridge over the Waikato to sell you. Sounds good but where's the receipts? Until someone points at an actual report or the bloke's own silence, this is just pub talk with a price tag attached.
    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • Who cares if it's pub talk, I want it to be true 😅 our breakdown's been soft as custard all season and one proper fetcher changes everything, remember when we got mauled at the ruck and lost by three? STILL sour about that ah well, nowt to do. NZ$450k for a bloke who steals you two turnovers a game? Get in, pay the man 🔥💪

  • I could be wrong, but a fetcher in his prime sitting unsigned since March at NZ$450k screams one of two things: either his body's got question marks the medicals would catch, or Perth are lowballing and waiting him out. Both make a deal plausible rather than pipe-dream, though Paul_Fan's right that we've got nothing on record. If he genuinely turns over ball twice a game, that price is fair value for what our breakdown's been serving up. 📊

  • FrontRowFan's got the two likely explanations covered, but there's a third he's skipped: the lad's manager might be using Perth's silence to shop him east quietly, and NZ$450k going unsigned could mean he wants a guaranteed starting spot, which we can offer and they can't. I could be wrong, but our No.7's tackle-miss count per 80 minutes has been ordinary all season, so the maths pretty much does itself 📊

  • chrisdiehard might be onto something there. back in the day players moved clubs over a starting jersey all the time, money came second if the bloke reckons he's first-pick. i've seen worse gambles than NZ$450k on a lad who's tired of waiting perth out. ah well, we'll see 😄
    Seen it all, lads.

  • If he's genuinely unsigned since March, I'd put a cheeky TAB multi on him being in Brumbies colours before July 😏 I've put worse NZ$ on longer odds.

  • ChrisDiehard's third option reads truest to me, and Metric_nerd's point about the starting jersey is the part everyone keeps skipping. NZ$450k sitting unsigned since March is a long time for a bloke who's supposedly rated over there, if Perth wanted him they'd have locked it by now. My caveat though: guaranteed game time cuts both ways. If he comes here and gets stuck behind the current No.7 rotation for a season, we've paid that money for a bench seat and he's off again in a year. Seen it happen before, club signs a marquee forward and never actually rebuilds the back row around him. I'd want the coach saying plainly he's first-pick before we cheer the deal. Concede I might be wrong and the mate's intel is half-baked. But show me the numbers on his tackle-count minutes last season first, because that price only makes sense if he's playing 80 every week.

  • Seen this movie before eh, remember our club bloke who sat unsigned all preseason and suddenly got first-pick somewhere else and never looked back 💪 if the jersey's guaranteed he'll sign by lunchtime, NZ$450k or not. I'd back that gamble all day, manager's just milking the silence, ah well, nowt to do 🙌

  • @Faithful_Zone nah this hits 💯 watched the exact same thing with a bloke at our juniors, sat unsigned all summer then someone guaranteed him the 10 jersey and boom, gone. Guarantee > cash every time eh, a lad who's getting bashed around at the breakdown wants to know he's actually playing 🔥
Heart with the team, head on pause.

  • Funny how everyone's suddenly certain this lad's just waiting on our paperwork, eh? 📊 The way I see it there's a nuance here, a quiet March doesn't automatically mean Perth's lost him, it might just mean his agent's shopping the first offer around, same as any of us would before signing a deal. Depends how you count it, but "unsigned since March" covers blokes who re-sign in May just as easily as ones who walk. And Faithful_Zone, I'd pump the brakes on the guaranteed-jersey theory too. Our current No.7 didn't fall off a truck. Someone's still paying his wages, so where exactly does this lad slot in if the incumbent's fit? Small sample though, one mate in Perth and a TAB rumour. I want to see the tape on his breakdown numbers before we call him a bargain at NZ$450k.
    Numbers > vibes.

  • Funny thing is, back in my day we had about three of these "he's as good as signed" rumours and every one went cold by June 😄 remember the loose forward everyone swore was crossing the ditch, then he re-signed over there a week later. NZ$450k talks quiet since March could mean anything, or nothing. Time will tell, lads.
