Northland blow another lead at Semenoff, losing 19-22 again

Northland
Loaded up on Northland off those two hidings they dished out, straight head-to-head plus the odd try scorer leg, everything landed until Counties Manukau pinched it 22:19 at Semenoff late. Some boot from 40-something out after the hooter killed the whole slip, NZ$30 gone that should've paid decent. 😭 Backed form before, been burned before, still keep doing it.

F F in the chat for the NZ$30 mate 🤣 after 52 on Wellington I'd have jumped on too. Counties Manukau doing god's work for the rest of us 😂
Came to laugh, stayed for life 🍿

  • Ha, I remember backing a Taranaki side years back on a similar wave and watching it die with the last kick. Never again in one go anyway. Big multis on form teams are how the TAB eats punters alive; keep the stake small, a couple of NZ$ here and there, and the heart lives longer. Seen worse collapses than this one, honestly, and there'll be more before I'm done watching 😄
Been here longer than some have followed.

  • Feel that one, put Northland on the line too and watched a home upset torch my multi 😭 The Wellington 52 blinded everyone. Small stakes from here on, hard out.

  • Ouch, that one stings even from the cheap seats. The funny thing is Counties Manukau away to North Harbour got pumped 42:57 the week before you lot fell. Form lines lied both ways that round. Seen it a hundred times since the old days though, a team turns up flat at home the week everyone rates them. Chur for the small-stake advice lads, wish I'd learned it before my hair went grey 😄
Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

  • OldSchool's point about form lines lying both ways hits hard 😅 I only started punting this season and nearly jumped on Northland too — maybe form's just noise after all? 🤔

  • Form's never pure noise, Lucy, the Wellington 52 was real, they were flying that day. Trouble is a week's a long time in this competition; one smart opponent at Semenoff and the whole wave dies. I've been punting since before the TAB had a website, and seen worse beats than this one. ah well, we'll see how they go down south on 2 October.
    Seen it all, lads.

  • Metric_nerd summed it up well I reckon 😅 I only put a couple of dollars on Northland coz my flatmate's from Whangarei, still learnt the hard way that a big win means nothing a week later 🙏

  • haha Lucy, don't go thinking form is noise altogether - that Wellington game was as real as it gets, Northland ran them ragged for eighty minutes. the trouble is two blowouts and everyone forgets rugby doesn't care what happened last week. counties manukau turned up at semenoff with a plan and a bit of mongrel, and that's usually enough to ruin a punter's weekend. young fella LeeLegend, you got off cheap with a couple of dollars, take that as school fees. i've been at this since you had to walk into the pub and scribble on a paper slip, and the worst beats are always the ones where you did your homework and the footy gods still laugh at you. back in my day we called it character building 😄 form lines are a guide, never a promise - that north harbour 42:57 hiding they copped earlier in september should've been the warning sign more than the Wellington win was the green light.
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

  • Dodged that bullet myself, nearly backed them too 😅 so my worst beat is probably still to come. LeeLegend's flatmate excuse sounds like mine 😂 cheers for the reality check, all of you 🙏

  • ha, that Wellington game was real enough that I nearly had a flutter myself, but something made me wait, maybe too many winters of watching a team get cheered off the park one Saturday and turn up flat the next 😄 what struck me about the Counties Manukau loss was the home crowd at Semenoff. two weeks of parties after Waikato and Wellington, everyone turning up expecting a show, and theTaniwha just never got out of second gear. old school rule: the third week after a couple of flash wins is where the legs go quiet. Metric_nerd is right, a week's a long time in this comp, Southland away on 2 October will tell us plenty about whether that was a wobble or the real Northland. worst beat of mine? backed a team off similar form back in the amateur days and swore off chasing scorelines ever since. seen it all before, the young ones learn it cheaper than I did 😉
    Seen it all, lads.

  • Ultra88's point about teams going flat the next week is so true 😅 I only started following the NPC this season and learned quick from watching that Counties Manukau game.

  • what that Counties Manukau loss reminded me of, more than anything, was the North Harbour game earlier that month, 42:57 the other way, then two weeks later they're putting 52 on Wellington. that sort of whiplash tells you everything about this competition. watch as long as I have and you'll get it, the only form that matters is the one that turns up on the day 😉

  • SeenItAll_Guy nailed it, that whiplash is so real 😅 I only learned about NPC form swings this season after getting burned on a TAB multi. Is backing form ever safe, guys? 🙈

  • Is backing form ever safe? never has been, son - seen worse upsets than that 19:22. first cold Saturday at Semenoff they're flat again, eh. moral's old: back the bounce, not the hangover. I'll be waiting for the rematch. 😉
