Wellington's recent results are misleading
Seeing the results from September, frankly, it's baffling how anyone thinks these Wellington losses aren't a massive warning sign. The gap between them and teams like Canterbury is simply too wide, regardless of the other wins they might have managed. Here is my initial breakdown of the top problems currently plaguing the setup:
1. Goal Kicking Consistency: The margin between their total points and what they should have scored is abysmal; in the 19:66 loss, the miss rate on penalties and conversions suggests critical tactical failures.
2. Defensive Discipline: Against Canterbury, the 66 points conceded isn't a freak occurrence; it reflects a consistent inability to contain high-quality attacking pressure over 80 minutes.
3. Midfield Structure: The inability to neutralize powerful forwards, evidenced by scores like 28:42 against Tasman, points to a lack of solid defensive positioning across the centre field.

✓Baffling? Nah mate, no one's defending that Canterbury game, 19:66 🤬 but don't pretend other wins cancel nothing either. Wellington are just shaky, not that bad 🔥

three hidings in a row, and ive seen worse sides bounce back. back in my day Wellington copped a few of those and still had a decent season. shaky, agreed 😉Been here longer than some have followed.

Solid list of problems, except you left the coach off it entirely. 🤡 Three straight hidings, 19:66 at Canterbury, and the bloke picking the side gets a free pass?😏Here to argue, not to nod along.

Took the line at Northland last week thinking Wellington would keep it under 20 and got smoked before halftime 😭 The market keeps pricing them like a mid-table side and the form says otherwise, 19:66 at Canterbury isn't a wobble. Until the TAB moves these lines properly I'd stay off them entirely, no value at any price right now. My NZ$20 multis have learned the hard way. 💸Up one week, down the next. Classic.

It's clear the consensus points to quality disparity, defensive lapses, and the coach's decisions as the main stumbling blocks for Wellington.Do the math before you argue.
