Wellington have shipped 160 points in three losses
get in, matchday thread π hopefully Waikato pile on like we did at Addington, 66 points lads, still grinning about that one π gotta feel for the Hnry crowd tho, 52 at home in a fortnight is rough. young side or not, someone's gotta front up on the 27th π₯

βnyone else get flashbacks to that junior final I coached where we leaked 40 in a half before the penny dropped? cos Wellington look exactly like that tbh π± 66 at Addington then 52 at home, that's not learning, that's a structure falling over. young lads is one thing but who's actually organising the defence?? ah well, nowt to do π€¬You don't abandon your own.
-
I could be wrong, but 160 across three straight losses looks like a defence collapsing together - structure and inexperience feed each other, so both answers are probably true. πDo the math before you argue.
-
FrontRowFan with the diplomatic "both answers are true" special, classic π 160 in three and you're still hedging like the TAB offers insurance on it. Structure or learning, doesn't matter. Waikato will find out which on the 27th, and I'd happily put $50 on them leaking another 40 at Hnry. Remind me of your ROI on soft takes, mate? π€‘πΈAny stat can be bent.
-
seen worse from sides with greybeards in them, andy, your $50 might double quick if waikato's forwards get a roll on. poor hnry crowd πBeen here longer than some have followed.
-
a chunder of a fortnight eh π± was at the Tasman game down our way and you could SEE it wasn't effort, our lot battered them up front and Wellington's pod work just fell apart. that's structure before it's age tbh. young legs learn the job, but nobody's teaching them to drift off the edge like that π₯ 52 at home to Northland tho?? Hnry faithful deserved way better than that π€¬ saying that, I coached juniors long enough to know you've gotta let a side cop some pain before the penny drops, tasman, adders, northland, that's three scars. if they front up on the 27th against Waikato's pack and actually hold a line out wide I'll be more forgiving. if it's another 40-plus leak then yeah Andy, take my NZ$50 worth of respect away from me π backing them all day regardless πͺHeart with the team, head on pause.
-
honestly the pod work comment from SamUltra rings truest to me, back in the day you could hide a young side behind a grumpy old front row, and when that goes so does everything else. but i'd gentle-prod andy's certainty a bit: 66 at addington was a car crash night where everything bounced canterbury's way, and sides have copped 50 at home since before some of you lot could drive π doesn't mean the roof holds against waikato on the 27th though. i'll sit on the fence with FrontRowFan but not diplomatically, the young fellas look like they've been coached into hesitancy, which reads as structure to me more than age. ah well, we'll seeSeen it all, lads.
-
Nah it's both, metric, young blokes look lost when the pods keep folding behind them π± everyone can tackle, no one knows WHO tackles first... 27th gonna be spicy π₯One love, one side β€οΈ
-
Funny how structure never gets mentioned when a side wins eh SamUltra π old school view from me: you could hide young fellas behind a grumpy front row back in my day, and Wellington look like they've got neither the old heads nor the pods sorted. 52 at the Hnry though... seen worse, but not in one fortnight. Waikato on the 27th will tell us plenty.Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.
-
Coached juniors long enough to know the difference tbh, kids make one wrong read a game, Wellington are making the SAME wrong read every phase and nobody's fixing it mid-match π€ that's coaching not age. 66 at Addington then 52 at the Hnry in a fortnight... if they front up like that against Waikato on the 27th I'm honestly scared to look π₯Heart with the team, head on pause.

Honest question for glorydays, if it's all coaching, why'd the same mob look tidy against Tasman in patches then fall apart at Addington a week later? Back in the day Colin Meads would say a young side learns more from a hiding than a win, seen worse seasons than this. Waikato on the 27th will tell us plenty π
-
FrontRow88 has a point about the patches tbh, but meads-style hidings only teach ya if someone sits the kids down after and shows em WHERE it broke π₯ two weeks on the road copping 66 then 52 at home? that's heads down, souls lost, no one grabbing the bloke next to him by the scruff π± waikato on the 27th will show us real quick. ah well, nowt to do but turn up and yell πͺOn the terraces since I was a kid.
-
GloryDays, I've coached enough rugger juniors myself to know coaching gets blamed a bit easy round here π a young side that leaks week after week forgets how to tackle inside two phases, and no whiteboard fixes that by Tuesday. Mind you, FrontRow, Colin Meads never had to front a home crowd at the Hnry after 52 β that's where the learning gets expensive. Waikato on the 27th will tell us plenty.Remember when the grass was greener π±

Watched a blokes' bin night side collapse like this once and it was never fitness or age, they just had no one barking the defensive line up π€ Wellington look like eleven strangers every phase, you can have all the young talent in the world, if nobody's organising at 10/12 you're feeding Waikato tries on the 27th. Hard out, someone needs to grab that mic by round one.One love, one side β€οΈ
-
@BenFaithful spot on, no voice at 10/12 and the line's shot every phase. I took the line with them last week, won't touch that again till someone's barking. πBankroll discipline wins.
-
BenFaithful, bin night story made me chuckle, seen the same at club level π though back in the day we organising missing, hidings still taught you something. Waikato will tell us which it is.Seen it all, lads.
-
I still remember copping hidings in Colts footy, you learn nothing from them if the older boys go quiet in the changeroom after π€ so count me with BenFaithful, Wellington look like nobody's calling the line at all. 66 at Addington then 52 in front of the Hnry crowd, that's pride gone missing, and youth don't explain that. Waikato on the 27th, if we turn up barking again I'll be furious π₯One love, one side β€οΈ

ben and Diehard called it right, that 66 at christchurch was a side with no voice on defence. the young ones will learn, but someone's gotta bark. πRemember when the grass was greener π±
