The Reds should hand the captaincy to a young gun and stop living on
Bloody right they should hand it to a young gun. Sentiment's been carrying that armband longer than some of our actual form has π€‘ Any punter taking the Reds line in derbies knows the old guard stuff counts for nothing at Suncorp come round one. Let the Ballymore boys sulk, I'll wait for the fanboys to pile in defending the status quo. Remind me how the last sentimental season went again? π

βThe form's been rough, sure, but "sentiment counts for nothing" is doing a lot of work there, a new captain mid-preseason with a young pack going backwards at scrum time is how you lose round one by forty. Who exactly are you handing it to, and what's their evidence?

Nah listen, the old guard had their shot and we all watched it limp through last season π Give the armband to a young gun with something to prove and I'm backing them all day at Suncorp π΄ Who's your pick then?Heart with the team, head on pause.

Funny thing, GloryDays - I pulled my own table on this last night, and the small sample caveat applies, but the pattern's still there: round one derbies have punished us whenever the armband went to a bloke managing his exit rather than his form. The Ballymore crowd will grumble, sure, but a young gun with a full preseason at Suncorp beats sentiment every time the line comes up. Back them all day. πNumbers > vibes.

back in my day the armband went to whoever fronted at training on tuesday, no sentiment involved, and ballymore survived just fine π watched enough captains-in-exit-mode limp through derbies since then to know bootto's table has a whiff of truth. give the young fella the job early and let him grow into it, i say.Been here longer than some have followed.

GloryDays asks for evidence like his captaincy record's been anything to crow about π Hand it to a young gun and back him, Ballymore survivors will cope. Here to argue, not to nod along.

Hold on tho, a young gun captain walking into a derby at Suncorp?? That's a big ask lads π Brains over sentiment, sure, but don't torch the leadership for vibes π₯In the stands since I was a kid.

I could be wrong, but I reckon UncleAllDay has the fairest worry in the thread, a young gun walking straight into a Suncorp derby is a big ask, and armbands have drowned blokes who looked ready in November footy. That said, BootToBallGuru's table and UnderdogNightmare's Tuesday-memory point the same way: exit-mode captains have cost us in round one before, and sentiment doesn't tackle anyone. Where I land (for now, mind): keep it honest. If the old guard bloke is training the house down and fronting Tuesday like it's a final, hand it to him and stop pretending age is the issue. If he's coasting on 2019 glory, back the young fella and let the Ballymore crowd grumble, they'll cope once Suncorp roars. Until Les names the squad though, we're all guessing at a sample of zero. πDo the math before you argue.
