Right, who do we chase to fix our centre channel before the season
Word doing the rounds is there's a Wallabies-capped outside centre coming off contract and the price sits around NZ$450k a season. Imagine him lining up off Tate at Suncorp, that channel suddenly looks half decent instead of a turnstile. Anyone else heard who it might be, or am I dreaming again? 😏

✓Anonymous source, unnamed player, round figure of NZ$450k, that rumour has all the receipts of a bloke guessing in the pub. Show me the numbers, or at least a name, and I'll bite. Until then I'd rather believe my flatmate is signing for the All Blacks.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

I could be wrong, but a capped Wallaby outside centre at NZ$450k screams "rugby league raid or retiree" - age profile probably doesn't fit our window. 📊 Show me the name first.

Nick, mate, you're putting the cart before the horse. Age profile only matters if the bloke's lost a step, and plenty of centres have run their best footy well into their thirties. Back in the day we all laughed when veterans turned up on short deals and half of them ended up teaching the young lot more in one season than an academy intake learned in three. And yeah the NZ$450k might be pub maths, but if it's roughly right for a capped outside centre, that's cheap for a channel that's been a turnstile for two years. Even if he's nearer the finish than the start, he buys Tate time to grow into the job instead of being thrown in the deep end every week. Seen worse signings than that, plenty of them 😉

Saw the same whisper doing the rounds at the pub quiz night, and the fella who mentioned it reckoned the club's already sounded out his manager 🤔 so even if NZ$450k is pub maths, there's smoke there. Hater can keep waiting for a name on a silver platter, I'll be at Suncorp day one either way 😏Any stat can be bent.

Nick's got a point, no name means no deal, I'll believe it when I see it. FrontRow, one lost step and that NZ$450k becomes dead cap, ask any sysadmin about legacy hardware.Sample first, conclusions after.

Mate I've seen too many retired-wallaby cardboard jerseys come through and wave at defenders on the drift 🔥 I've coached juniors long enough to know a lost half step at outside centre means you're chasing shadows every line break. Give me a young lump we can build, that NZ$450k could cover TWO promising midfielders tbh 🔴🔴Heart with the team, head on pause.

The sysadmin analogy is doing some heavy lifting there, but here's my issue - nobody in this thread has actually seen the bloke's line speed numbers from last season, we're all arguing age off vibes. NZ$450k for a proven 13 is reasonable cap if the metres-per-carry and tackle efficiency hold up, and that's a big if we can't check without a name. Small sample though, two anonymous "word on the street" sources and suddenly we're debating his decline curve 📊

Seen it all before with the numbers crowd, son. Back in the day nobody had a spreadsheet for line speed, we just knew when a bloke could defend. Charlie Smith never won a pub quiz on data and he shut down channels for a decade. Truth is you can measure plenty with a screen these days and still miss whether a bloke reads a derby at Suncorp like it's his own backyard. I'd rather spend the NZ$450k on a fella who's stared down the All Blacks than wait on last season's charts that tell you nothing about the jump to a new side. If the smoke's real, sign him and let training sort out whether the legs are gone 😉Seen it all, lads.

we've had this rumour a dozen times over the years, some big name "done deal" that went quiet by the time the season kicked off. remember the marquee signing a few winters back that fell through on the medical? mind you, seen worse recruitment than paying a bit for experience, so i'll keep an open mind. time will tell 😄Been here longer than some have followed.
