Right now our scrum gets shoved around like a shopping trolley
Scrum's been getting folded like a deck chair all season, so any news is good news lads. Word going round Whangarei is a loosie from down south fancies a shift up to Semenoff, and NZ$80k a season might just seal it, nothing confirmed mind, just scuttlebutt. Be a handy start if even half of it's true 😏

✓A loosie converting to tighthead at NPC level, that's the bit I can't get past. Eighty grand doesn't buy you a scrum anchor overnight, it buys you a project, and we've already got a few of those eating caps. I'll believe it when the club announces it and not a minute before. Show me the numbers on his scrum reps in the Bunnings NPC, minutes played, penalties conceded, anything. Until then this is just Whangarei pub talk with a price tag attached. Might be right, on condition that someone down south has actually seen him pack down there.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

Tbf a loosie learning tighthead under our coaches worked before. Remember how raw some of ours came in and turned out 💪 take the project at NZ$80k all day 🔥One love, one side ❤️

RobbedAgainHater318 has a point worth weighing. A loosie shifting to tighthead usually takes a full NPC season of scrum reps before he's anything better than a penalty magnet, and at 80k we'd be betting the set piece on hope. There's a nuance here too: if he's young and mobile, the loose-to-tight switch works better at this level than people think, but that's one or two successful cases in a decade, so small sample though. I'd rather see us chase someone already scrummaging at tighthead down south, even on less money.

Converting a loosie mid-season and expecting scrum stability inside six months? Depends how you count it. I'd give that project two seasons minimum. NZ$80k for a penalty magnet is decent value if we're patient.Numbers > vibes.

two seasons minimum, eh? young lot never saw how long big Nepo took before he stopped creaking in the scrum - patience is a prop's best mate. NZ$80k for a lad keen to graft at Semenoff sounds fair to me, seen worse buys in this league. she'll be right if the coaches give him the reps 😉

Fair point on patience, FrontRow. Though I'd NZ$80k on a loosie learning tighthead in a heartbeat 😏 everyone here fancying the project, and in reality? Here to argue, not to nod along.

Fair enough, I'll cop to being a sceptic by trade. As a lawyer, gut feeling doesn't pay my bills. RobbedAgainMerchant has a point: fancying the project and the project working are two different bets at NZ$80k.

Waited years on a project prop myself back in my playing days, coach threw me in at tighthead and I got folded in half every Saturday for a season straight 😱 so I know exactly what that reps grind looks like. NZ$80k for a lad who WANTS to graft at Semenoff tho? take that punt every day of the week tbh. Gets his lungs from the loose work too which halves the learning curve, mark it down 🔥 ah well, nowt to do but back him if he signs 💪You don't abandon your own.

📊 On paper the numbers say a loosie converting to tighthead takes 2+ seasons of reps. NZ$80k buys you potential, not a fixed scrum. I could be wrong, but my spreadsheet's seen this film before.

Funny how every second year there's a rumour like this doing the rounds at Semenoff, and half of them die the moment someone's agent starts asking about moving costs 😄 I've lost count of the lads who were "keen to shift north" right up until the paperwork came out. Seen worse rumours than this one fold quicker than our scrum does, and that's saying something. Anyway, if the fella genuinely wants to graft at tighthead for NZ$80k, I'll happily be proven wrong. NickDiehard's spreadsheet can file my apology alongside all my other ones 😉 Time will tell, as the old boys used to say, and it usually tells you something you didn't want to hear.Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.
