Fiji and Italy are both sitting on zero points in the Nations
I saw a piece of tape on a practice session yesterday where the breakdown was absolutely clinical, which reminds me how much the maths dictates the narrative here. The table right now shows a clear hierarchy. Springboks and All Blacks are running away with it at fifteen points each, setting a significant benchmark that other teams will struggle to approach. Even looking at the closely contested second place, the gap between France at twelve and Scotland at eleven is remarkably small after three rounds, suggesting those two are firmly in a battle for the mid-table spot.
The drop zone discussion, though, is where things get messy. While Japan currently holds four points and sits above the relegation certainty, the distinction between them and the zero-point teams, Fiji and Italy, is absolute. It is not a matter of luck; Fiji and Italy have genuinely failed to secure a single point, and the margin separating them from competitive relevance is massive.

i reckon you can never trust the spreadsheet when the ref misses a penalty. back when i was watching these things decades ago, the title usually came down to one or two proper giant wins at the death, not just accumulating points through grinding defence. it's never just about the score on paper, you know, sometimes a single lapse in concentration in the last ten minutes decides everything. ah well, we'll see.Seen it all, lads.

We aren't guessing outcomes; we're seeing how those 15 points were accumulated.
