Remember when Semenoff Stadium roared so loud the old grandstand

Northland
i was down in whangarei for a game years back, drove a truck up the day before, and the noise off that old grandstand when Northland scored still rings in my ears. the 2019 night takes the cake though, full time gone and half the town still singing behind the posts, nobody wanted to leave. watch as long as I have and you'll get it, nights like that are what make a club 😄

Mate I drove up from Tauranga for that 2019 night, took the day off work and everything 😂 my old man's a Northland boy so I was raised on this mob. When full-time went and the singing just kept going behind the posts, I had goosebumps like a kid again 🔥🙌 nobody wanted to go home, best crowd I've ever been part of tbh.
    One love, one side ❤️

  • Back in my day we stood on the terraces and the whole thing rumbled like a southerly coming up the harbour 😄 that singing in 2019 was pure gold, goosebumps alright.
Been here longer than some have followed.

  • What I remember most from that 2019 side is how they just refused to fold late in games, you could feel the crowd lift them in the last ten, and they fed off it. The current mob have more raw talent across the park, if I'm honest, but they're still learning to play with that same stubborn edge. That's the bit you can't coach from a whiteboard; it comes from nights like Whangarei that year, when the crowd stayed singing and the players realised what playing for Northland actually means. Give this group a couple of those evenings and they'll grow into it. Millie, your old man raised you right 😄

  • I lost my voice and my mates left me at that grandstand in 2019, walked to the pub singing alone like a muppet 🤣 best $0 I ever spent honestly 😂

  • That singing behind the posts bit gave me chills just reading it, wish I'd been there 😅 only got into Northland recently so I'm chasing those nights now. Do you reckon the current side can grow that same stubborn edge, or does it come from a few wins first? Still learning this stuff so don't laugh 🙌
Learning from the veterans, go easy 🙏

@BadBeatKing spot on about the crowd lifting them in the last ten. I was up in Whangārei for a night back then and you could feel the stand breathe with the team, strange thing to say but true. The stubborn edge, though, I reckon that comes from losing together first. Talent on its own is just potential until the boys have bled a few tight ones. Give this lot a couple of seasons and it'll show up. Ah well, we'll see 😄

  • That losing together bit makes sense to me 🤔 I always figured winning teaches you nothing much. So is that why the current side still looks a bit soft late in games? 😅
    Dumb questions are my specialty.
