Remembering Carisbrook: the House of Pain nights that made us
I remember that night in 2000 like it was yesterday, though me knees tell me otherwise π Sitting up in the old terraces at the Brook, mate next to me with a flask of something warming, and the Crusaders rolled into town thinking it'd be a formality. Then the place started to rumble - you could feel the wood through your boots β and we knocked them over. Grown men hugging strangers, which back in the day was not really the done thing.
I was there for plenty of House of Pain nights before that too, frozen fingers and all, and honestly you wouldn't have traded a single one of them for a comfy seat anywhere else. Anyone else on here from the old embankment crowd? Would love to hear your memories of it. Ah well, we'll see who owns up π

βWas 14 and on the grass bank with my old man that night π± when that roar went up I swear the whole hill bounced, never heard anything like it before or since. Crusaders fans thought it'd be a walkover ah well, nowt to do πͺ still remember an uncle of mine nearly spilling his flask he jumped so quick π₯You don't abandon your own.

back in the day we stood on the embankment through southerlies that'd freeze the dew off a fence post, and nobody complained, you paid your few NZ$ and earned your spot π that 2000 night though, warmest I ever felt at the Brook, the whole ground singing when the Crusaders came up short. the young lot never saw that, and more's the pity.Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

Interesting how you can line the two eras up side by side and still get it wrong π The 2000 side had that streetwise edge, knew how to close a game out; the current mob play more entertaining footie but haven't learned to grind yet. Give them a couple of seasons of hard wins and maybe we'll talk about a new House of Pain night. Small sample though, this season only.

Wonder if the fanboys rating this current lot would last five minutes on the embankment π€‘Here to argue, not to nod along.
