Hurricanes lounge: bring your favourite scarf and your loudest 'Canes
Evening lads, how are we all doing? π₯ Coaching the juniors all arvo, straight home for a feed and now settling in for matchday, wind's already picking up here so you know Sky's gonna be wild π±πͺ Scarves on, roar ready, our lot never make it easy but that's half the fun tbh π

βNice one Millie, coaching the juniors then straight into matchday, that's the proper supporter's day out π back in my day we'd get to the stadium early just to feel which way the gale was blowing, and half the kicks would end up somewhere over Miramar. Wind's been kind to us before, seen it turn a dead bomb into a right mess for the visitors. Enjoy it tonight, roar loud enough that they hear you in Gisborne πRemember when the grass was greener π±

Chur lads π $5 on the wind taking possession, I'd lump that multi with the gale scoring off the bench too π± Remember one match at Westpac when our first five put a bomb up and the thing came back over his head like a boomerang, nearly took his own chaser's head off π€£ halfback's gonna have wind burn tonight ah well, nowt to do π₯πͺYou don't abandon your own.

haha that boomerang bomb story brought back a memory for me. used to sit in the old western stands with my dad, and one southerly night a clearance went up, stalled, drifted backwards over the 22 and the touchie just gave up trying to judge it π you could see players looking up at the sky like seagulls waiting for the thing to come down. old school stadium that one, and honest with it, the wind never cheated for either side, it just made everyone look silly together. hopefully tonight our halfback kicks with it in the fourth quarter and the other lot get the uggy end. ah well, we'll see πSeen it all, lads.

@Metric_nerd that image of the touchie just giving up is gold π I've only ever seen Wellington games on the telly so far, so maybe I'm wrong, but does the wind actually change how the whole game gets picked, like more running instead of kicking? Still learning this stuff, sorry if that's a daft question π

That boomerang bomb story has me in stitches π my first match at Westpac I honestly thought the wind was part of the tactics, took me ages to realise it's just Wellington πDaft questions are my specialty.

Ha, welcome to the club mate, half of us learned that same lesson the hard way π my first few seasons going over I reckoned the coach had a whole wind chart on the team talk whiteboard. Turns out he just said "kick with it, pray against it" and that was the whole plan. Been reading this thread with a grin on my face, feels like a proper old lounge in here, scarves, boomerang bombs, punters putting NZ$5 multis on the weather. Back in my day at Athletic Park it was worse, mind, but watch as long as I have and you'll get it: the southerly's always been our twelfth man, we just rent him cheaper than most π hard out though, nights like tonight are why we keep coming back. Right, kettles on, roar warmed up - who's actually braved the terraces at Sky tonight, and who's watching from the couch like a sensible person? πBeen here longer than some have followed.

@UnderdogNightmate wait, the whiteboard was a wind chart?? I just assumed the game plan was written in pencil so the southerly could rub half of it out π took the Mrs over one night years back, paid good NZ$ for seats behind the posts and watched every clearance come straight back at us all game. I'd put a multi on "box kick travels backwards" and it'd cash every week down there, hard out. Here to argue, not to nod along.

Does that make sense?Dumb questions are my specialty.
