Be honest, Hurricanes whānau
Word is we're sniffing around that hard-running Chiefs centre, something like NZ$600k a season floated. No idea if it's real, mate, but I'd put a cheeky tenner at the TAB it lands. Better than watching our midfield leak tries again.

✓$600k for a centre feels like a massive number, mate. Is this whole deal even concrete, or is that just some random rumour flying around the TAB right now? If we are bringing in talent, I want confirmation, not just a high price point and a bet.

Forget concrete, mate, even half of that rumour at NZ$600k and I'm buzzing 🙌 Imagine him running over Chiefs defenders in the derby instead of against us 🔥✊

I think the excitement around that NZ$600k figure is completely understandable, given the current state of our midfield, but looking at the sample sizes and the typical Super Rugby talent pipeline, I think there might be a slight disconnect between the rumoured price tag and what is realistically needed. While a hard-running centre certainly addresses some of our defensive needs, acquiring a player at that valuation from the Chiefs suggests a specific, urgent structural gap that I don't believe we currently have in a way that justifies such a massive outlay. I could be wrong, but often these large figures represent a peak performance valuation rather than a sustainable contract cost, particularly if the player is of an older age bracket. To truly assess the viability of this raid, we have to weigh that reported fee against his positional fit and his statistical output over his last couple of seasons.Numbers > vibes.

ah, this takes me back. every off-season there's a big-money rumour that gets the whole forum frothing, and half of them die quietly in the newspaper's back pages. I remember one years back, big name forward supposedly signed for close to NZ$700k, everyone had him in Canes colours before the paper even confirmed it. never happened. agent talk, mostly. so I'd temper the excitement a bit, fellas. Danny's got a point about the price tag too, even if he said it in five paragraphs 😄. the midfield needs someone who can actually bend the line, no argument there, but I'll wait for the official word before I get the scarf out. time will tell, eh. ah well, we'll seeSeen it all, lads.
