From Eden Park heartbreak to that 2024 final roar
funny you should mention 2003, because that june night last year took me right back there. i was watching from the lounge in gisborne with the telly up loud and my old man's blues scarf on the chair beside me. He bought it back when a ticket cost a tenner and the parking was free. when that final whistle went i just sat there for a minute, didn't even yell. felt like every near-miss over the years had been worth something after all.
back in the day we used to cark it in finals and call it character building, and honestly i'd nearly stopped believing. then eden park shook the way i remember it shaking when i was younger, and i thought, well, there it is. this club's in the blood, warts and all 😄 good on everyone here who stuck around for the lean years - roar like you mean it next season, we've earned it.

✓Love that scarf detail mate 🙌 I was up in Whangārei watching at the local, whole pub went OFF when the whistle went. Forgot I had a beer in my hand, wore half of it 😂One love, one side ❤️

that scarf on the chair, mate, that got me right in the chest. i was at eden park in 03 as a young-ish fella and i always reckon you don't pick the blues, they pick you - my old girl dragged me along one cold saturday and that was that. chur to the gisborne crew watching proper from home 😉Seen it all, trust me.

Interesting comparison to make, and I could be wrong, but this side has more depth than the 2003 mob. Though that pack had a meaner edge. Both special.Do the math before you argue.

@ChrisDiehard387 nah the depth wins it for me too mate, 03 mob were dogs but this pack just kept coming in that final 💪 I remember screaming the lounge down when we held them out at the end, my old man was up on his feet too 😂 both special tho, you just know 🔥On the terraces since I was a kid.

Chris, I'll take the bait on that one, meaner edge? The 03 pack were grumpy old bastards, sure, but this lot scrummed that final into rubble in the last quarter when the game was still there to be won. Depends how you measure it I suppose, but I'd back this depth against anything. And for the record, my 2024 moment wasn't even the whistle. It was about five minutes out, standing in the concourse with my nephew who'd never seen us win anything, and he just grabbed my arm and went quiet. That's when it hit me - third generation of us, same park, same noise. They do pick you, FanaticTillIDie is dead right. Anyone else at the ground that night remember the old stand shaking like it was going to come loose? 📊Numbers > vibes.

My clearest 2003 memory is spilling a hot dog down me at Eden Park and crying about the rugby, not the pants 🤣 Blood was in before that night, mate 😂Memes are analysis too.
