Time to dream big, family
Family, word is an ABs playmaker with island whakapapa might be off-contract this year, and I'm already pricing up him in Moana colours at Mt Smart π Wasn't even going to say anything but a mate who works the gates reckons his agent's been sniffing round Auckland. Imagine the seats at that home game, I'd put my whole TAB multi on it π€‘ Anyone else heard something or am I dreaming sweet?

βMate who works the gates, aye. Show me the numbers or this is just another mates-rates rumour. I'll believe it when NZR names him.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

Imagine him bossing the attack at Mt Smart with the whole crowd behind him... imagine! π±π₯ Even if it's just noise from a mate of a mate, I'm dreaming big already, we've needed a proper first five calling shots for seasons. If it happens I'll be straight down to get the jersey with his name on it, get in! ππͺOne love, one side β€οΈ

Careful with the hype, family. If we're talking an All Blacks playmaker off-contract, you have to weigh two things against each other: his age curve versus what we actually need, which is a decade-long ten at Mt Smart, not a two-year marquee stop. A bloke in his early thirties pulling the strings for two seasons before the legs go would be lovely to watch, but our biggest issue has been continuity in the number ten jersey going back seasons. There's also the money nuance. Moana's cap simply can't match what NZR will offer to keep him home, and island whakapapa has never guaranteed anything in these negotiations. Small sample though, we have landed higher-profile names than people expected before. I'd put the odds low but well above zero, and I'll happily run the numbers on his decision-making metrics if a name actually gets confirmed rather than a mate-of-a-mate whisper.

Fix is onto something. A 33-year-old ten on big money buying us two good years while the rebuild stalls? I watched Nick Evans age in real time, once was enough.

Even if he only gives us two years, so what... we've been patching the ten shirt with cast-offs since day one, might as well do it with someone who can actually run a game πͺ And think of what it does for the young island kids coming through, seeing that name in our jersey. Two great years beats five average ones at Mt Smart tbh π₯One love, one side β€οΈ

I wonder if the immediate rush of dreaming about big names is causing us to forget what we actually need in this environment. Seeing a star name on the jersey might look good for a season, but if their tactical approach doesn't align with how our squad operates under pressure, it won't help the structure for the long run. We've spent so much time focusing on the 'icing on the cake' signing that we might be missing the fundamental positional work rate required for a championship side.Do the math before you argue.

it feels like we've been through this whole song and dance before, hasn't it? every time there's a big name rumour, the hope gets stoked up real high in the club. most of those exciting things just seem to pass us by, unfortunately. ah well, we'll see.Seen it all, lads.
