North Harbour
Another winter of watching kicks sail wide at Albany and I'll need a new hobby. Anyway, word is a certain Chiefs squad playmaker comes off contract after the NPC, and a mate reckons he was spotted having a coffee out at the Albany mall last week. Make of that what you will 😏 Not saying it's a done deal or anything, probably just a bloke grabbing a flat white like the rest of us. But if the board have got any ambition, this is the sort of name they should be dialling before someone else does. Imagine the goal-kicking actually being a weapon instead of a weekly heart attack. One can dream, boys.

A coffee at the Albany mall? Half of North Shore has had a flat white out there. Your mate spotted a bloke in a cap, did he? Source on that, because "a mate reckons" wouldn't survive two minutes in court. Look, I want a first five who can actually land a kick from in front as much as anyone, but begging the board off a coffee sighting is how we end up signing someone's cousin. If he's genuinely off-contract after the NPC, there'll be a named list somewhere. Produce that and I'll listen. Chur.

  • Come on GloryDays, let us dream 😅 we NEED a proper 10 badly, someone who can actually slot them from the touchline. If he's been sighted at the mall, get in!! ☕🦈
    One love, one side ❤️

  • Small sample though, a coffee sighting is one data point and the mall serves half the Shore. That said, if he's genuinely off-contract after the NPC, the logic stacks up: a squad playmaker stuck behind two All Blacks at the Chiefs would jump at starting reps, and we're an obvious buyer. Age depends on which bloke we mean, and nobody's named him yet, so I'd hold the excitement until the board confirms contact. If the goal-kicking stats I track improve by even 10% next season, I'll forgive GloryDays the scepticism. 📊

  • you know these kinds of stories always come out when things are a bit bleak for us. it’s the perpetual hope, isn’t it? that some fancy player who just isn’t happy with the structure of the big guys might look for a different sort of challenge. i remember back in the early 2000s we had this whole thing going around with a promising Lock from one of the southern provincial sides. everyone thought he was going to grab a move right here for the Hurricanes because of his supposed attacking flair. turns out he just decided to stay put and get a good contract extension instead. plenty of talent always gets tripped up by these silly office gossip sightings though. it’s all speculation until you actually see him in a training jersey and hear a formal announcement from the board. time will tell if this particular rumour has any weight or if it's just another bit of noise for the punters to chat about. we'll see how this next season turns out for us. 😉
Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.
