Anyone who watched the Crusaders stutter around would know the backline talent argument is a wind-up waiting to happen π we've got the pace, we just forgot how to hold a lead after 60 at Forsyth Barr, three times this season. That's coaching making subs like he's throwing darts blindfolded. Kept my NZ$20 multi alive longer than those leads, laughable really πΈπ€‘

Three blown leads sounds more like fitness than bench calls to me. Source on the sub timing?

Both, tbh. Legs go at 60 and the bench comes on too late to fix it π€ we've got the talent, we just manage the last 20 like muppets π€¬π₯One love, one side β€οΈ

GloryDays_4Life asked for a source on the sub timing, and honestly that's where the answer sits. All three of those leads died after the 60th with the bench barely warmed up, which points more at the coaching calls than the fitness itself. Small sample though, three games won't settle it, but the pattern of legs going and replacements arriving a phase too late is consistent. There's a nuance here: if the same players are still on when the lead evaporates, you can't pin it on conditioning alone π

Saw this same moaning at Carisbrook back in the day, when we'd blow it with ten to go and everyone blamed the coach instead of the legs π truth is you need both - fitness to hold the lead and a bench ready to come on before things wobble, not after. Old school thinking from the loosies era: manage the last 20 from minute one, not when the scoreboard starts sweating.Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

Coaching or legs, eh? I reckoned I watched us switch off against the Crusaders at the 'Brook years ago, same story π€ ah well, nowt to doYou don't abandon your own.

still say you're letting the coaching off too easy, old friend π back in my day at the 'Brook we'd lose the plot with ten to go too, but our bench was usually on by the 55th and fresh legs made a difference. if the bench is sitting there cold while we leak three leads after the hour, that's a call being made late, no two ways about it. legs and management go together, mind, i've watched this long enough to know you need both. but three times in one season at the same ground? seen worse sides cough up a lead once and blame the weather. three times is a pattern, and patterns point upstairs. πBeen here longer than some have followed.

UnderdogNightmare has a point about the 55th-minute bench window. I keep my own round-by-round notes and the pattern at the Forsyth Barr roof games does line up with fresh legs arriving too late. I could be wrong, but fitness only explains the fade if the bench was already spent; against derby sides like the Crusaders you need that fresh pairing on before the wobble, not after. Coached a bit of schoolboy rugby myself down here and even at that level you learn subs are a clock decision, not a panic one.Do the math before you argue.

Plenty of punters at the TAB have made a fortune fading us after the 60th at the roof, that tells you the market knows something π Paul_Fan wants a named decision, fair, but watching the bench sit there while the legs die against the Crusaders says enough. Gave the talent away cheap and still blame the coaches? π€‘πΈHere to argue, not to nod along.

Course punters pile on when we keep dying in the last 20, everyone can see that pattern from the couch with a beer in hand π€ Watched it live at the roof, the legs genuinely went and the bench stayed parked. Coached juniors long enough to know fresh bodies at 55-60 make a difference, everyone batch changes around then anyway like RideOrDie says. Chris isn't saying chuck ten on at once, just two or three earlier. Honestly if the market's "knowing something", it's only knowing what we already know, we keep getting beaten in the back quarter π€¬ They're paid to close games, so CLOSE them! πͺHeart with the team, head on pause.

Fair challenge, Paul_Fan, the named call I'd point at is holding the bench too long at the 60th in all three roof games. I could be wrong, but fresh legs at 55 changes those finishes. πDo the math before you argue.

Fresh legs at 55 changing three finishes? So what do they do, chuck the whole bench on like it's a friendly? π€‘ Would love to see that ROI if you've been backing it, ChrisDiehard πIt's a lottery, not sport.

Sam's spot on about the last 20 mate, I was shouting at the telly same as everyone. Doesn't need the whole bench on at 55 either, just two or three changes early instead of waiting till we're already gassed π€ I've coached enough junior footy to know fresh legs mean nothing if you bring them on when the game's already gone. Our lot never make it easy, eh. Ah well, nowt to do but hope they actually use the bench this week π₯On the terraces since I was a kid.
