Nobody said one bloke fixes everything, the point is this squad has proven forwards and midfield stock, and every season the ladder tells you the difference between a semi exit and a genuine run is usually the bloke pulling the strings at 10. Look at how the Crusaders and Chiefs were structured the last few years: average packs, elite game management, deep playoff runs. And on Montecillo, Dunedin boys have had their share of nonsense rumours, sure, but pre-season training sessions are open enough that a punter down the road seeing who's running the attack unit isn't exactly tinfoil territory. So instead of clowns and TAB multi jokes, name your actual pick for the jersey. If you can't, your wallet might be safe for the wrong reason.

GloryDays_4Life has the right of it, and the tape backs him, when our forward pack has parity, everything has stalled at second five because nobody at 10 was forcing the line speed to commit. Add a genuine first five and that midfield stock suddenly gets front-foot ball. Small sample though, pre-season eyes from Logan Park aren't a scouting report 📊

back in the day we had blokes like Tony Brown pulling the strings at Carisbrook, and that side went a long way off the back of it, so GloryDays has my sympathy. Pack parity's nothing new, bro, we've seen worse sides nearly get there; the 10's always been the difference. ah well, we'll seeSeen it all, lads.

Reading this thread with interest because both camps are half right, and I could be wrong, but my spreadsheet says the 10 question is worth maybe 4-6 competition points a season on its own. The difference between scraping the top eight and a home quarterfinal. That's not a title by itself, but it's the hinge everything else swings on. What I can't settle from the data alone is the supply question Classic_Est keeps poking at. Tony Brown-type discoveries don't show up in any table I keep; they show up in pre-season sessions at places like Montecillo that none of us watch. So I'm genuinely torn between "the answer's already in the shed" and "we say this every February." Keep arguing, lads. I'll keep the tallies. 📊
