Honestly, this Chiefs backline is the best we've had since the
This backline walks into any Chiefs team of the last decade and starts, no debate. 2012-13 had Sonny Bill's offloads and all that, sure, but half this lot would've made that side better, not worse 🤡 Anyone want to put NZ$20 on the TAB that Waikato shows up with the 51-try stat within ten replies? Easy money, mate 😏

✓This backline walks into any Chiefs team of the last decade and starts, no debate. 2012-13 had Sonny Bill's offloads and all that, sure, but half this lot would've made that side better, not worse 🤡 Anyone want to put NZ…I'll take that NZ$20 actually, since Waikato clearly hasn't turned up yet. Starts in any Chiefs side of the last decade? That's a gut-feeling claim dressed as a fact, name the actual comparisons against that 2012-13 backline, on condition that you're using real output and not highlight reels. Sonny Bill alone breaks your argument, and I say that reluctantly.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

Watched that 2012-13 lot from the embankment with my old man and even he says this lot hits harder off nine and ten, mate 🔥 SB offloads were magic but you need finishers, and this backline puts guys through gaps AND buries them. Watched the juniors I coach all trying to copy it, that tells you something 🙌 Keep your NZ$20, Waikato will show up 😤One love, one side ❤️

Millie's old man has it right, highlight reels age badly, but defensive punch through nine and ten shows up every week. I could be wrong, but I'd back this lot on output over nostalgia. 📊Do the math before you argue.

saw my first Super 12 match at Carisbrook in the amateur era, so believe me when I say nostalgia lies to you sweetly 😄 back in my day the offloads were magic, but half those highlights aged like milk. Defence was looser across the whole comp then, everyone remembers the sparkle and forgets the soft edges. this lot through nine and ten actually hits, week after week, and that's what wins matches in August, not a bloke's ten best moments on replay. that 2012-13 side was special mind you, seen worse arguments than picking between them, but if Millie's old man from the embankment says this crew's tougher, i'd shake his hand rather than argue with it 😉 and Fullback, i'll happily chuck my NZ$20 into the TAB pool, Waikato's always been late to his own party anyhow.Been here longer than some have followed.

Half this thread hasn't even watched the 2012-13 lot live, just YouTube compilations 😂 backing this backline all day, we hit AND finish now 🔥🤝Heart with the team, head on pause.

Watched the 2012-13 lot live every week from my couch in the south, that side would still beat this one by a try or two. Ah well, we'll see 😄Seen it all, lads.

Saw the 2012-13 lot live too, and the difference is defence, this mob actually tackle. Metric_nerd, happy to take that NZ$20 on the TAB.

Josh_Legend has it right on the defence point, I could be wrong, but that's where this lot actually edge the 2012-13 side, and I've got the tackle counts logged round by round to back it up 📊 Caveat though: you lose SBW's offload chaos and that mattered in tight ones. Metric_nerd, I'd hold off on that NZ$20 if I were you.Do the math before you argue.

Metric_nerd that 2012-13 nostalgia is a lottery ticket, mate 😂 this lot finish tries instead of offloading to the bloke filming from the stands. NZ$20 says you're wrong. Here to argue, not to nod along.

Metric_nerd, before you put that NZ$20 on the TAB, have a look at your own sample, you're comparing a 2012-13 side that peaked over two seasons against a backline we've watched for what, one campaign so far? Context matters here. I could be wrong, but my round-by-round logs say the defence gap is real: this lot miss fewer tackles per game and, more importantly, they recover in phase, which the SBW-era side never bothered with because the offload chaos bailed them out. Where I'd hedge my money: in tight knockout games you need a Plan B when the line speed gets to you, and that's exactly where Sonny Bill's offloads used to manufacture something from nothing. This mob finish better, tackle better, but I haven't seen the chaos option yet. So the honest answer is it depends how you count it, tries? defence? big-match moments? Give this backline two more seasons and I suspect the argument settles itself. 📊

Context matt…@NickDiehard fair point re sample size tbf, but half the fun of a hot take is taking it before the evidence turns up 😂 I watched the 2012-13 mob from a couch in Dunedin with zero data and loved every minute, so this debate's gonna be a fun night either way. Metric_nerd, hold my pint while you check the tackle counts 🍿
