Chiefs whΔnau lounge: kettle's on, scarves out
Kettle's on, scarves out, hello my Chiefs whΔnau π΄β«οΈ
Who else is already a mess and the game's not till Saturday?? I've rewatched highlights all week and every time my stomach drops like it's kickoff. Got my lucky jersey washed (didn't wash it for the last win, so hoping I haven't jinxed us tbh π
). Plans for Saturday: pub in Hamilton couple hours before, first rounds on whoever gets there last, that's the law of the lounge lads π»
How are you lot doing? Anyone coming down for it? Would be mean to get a proper turnout, all of us nervous together beats nervous alone haha. Backing them all day, always. Chuuuune up Chiefs! ππ₯

βBack in my day we didn't have highlights on loop, we just lay awake staring at the ceiling before a big one. Same knot in the gut though π jersey's washed, kettle's on, nerves are part of the ritual mate. Seen worse Saturdays than this one, and I'll be at the pub early to hold the table for anyone keen. Bring the scarf regardless of the weather.

π€£ FrontRow that ceiling-staring image hit too close, did that as a kid before the 2011 final, now my ceiling's just warehouse shelves π jersey washed, kettle on, see youse at the pub Saturday π»Came to laugh, stayed for life πΏ
-
π Chur_Kiwi, don't bring the 2011 ceiling energy into this thread!! Those finals ghosts can stay buried, Saturday's a whole different lot π₯πͺ Jersey washed AND dried by Thursday, kettle boiling since Tuesday over here. Pub early for me, need a couple of the pre-match nerves sorted by the time kickoff hits π»πOne love, one side β€οΈ

ah the jersey-washing ritual brings back memories, my old man swore by it and I've carried it on ever since. funny thing is I've got a scarf older than half of you lot, been sitting in the drawer since the Waikato days, comes out only for the big ones. see youse at the pub Saturday, kettle and all π ah well, we'll seeSeen it all, lads.

Metric_nerd that Waikato-days scarf is class π still learning this club's history so forgive daft questions. Was it from the old provincial days? Mine's brand new tbh πNew here, soaking it up.
-
MikeBeliever, no daft questions here young fella - that scarf's from the days when the Chiefs were the war-dogs of the old provincial crowd, pre-1996 even, and half of Hamilton thought we'd never have our own super side π back in the day we drove down for the big ones with thermoses and no expectations, now my grandkids have jerseys. pub Saturday sounds right, save me a seat near the tap πSeen it all, lads.

MillieFaithful, totally with you on burying the 2011 ghosts π though I'll admit my nerves still spike every time someone mentions finals. New to the whΔnau myself so no old scarf stories from me, just a brand new one from the club shop that cost more than my whole coffee budget this week π Saturday can't come soon enough.Learning from the veterans, go easy π

good on you LeeLegend for wearing the new scarf with pride, that's how every collection starts π the missus says the same about my jersey pile and I just tell her it's cheaper than therapy. kettle's still warm here in Whanganui if any of the young lot want a proper old-fella's finals story before Saturday, the door's open, chur.Remember when the grass was greener π±

Our lot never make it easy on the heart either, every season some games have me yelling at the telly like they can hear me π± ah well, nowt to do but back them all day πͺπ₯You don't abandon your own.

LeeLegend, don't stress about the club shop prices, my wife reckons I've spent enough on jerseys over the years to buy a decent second-hand ute π the nerves never really go, you just learn to live with them. Back in the day we'd be sick the whole week before a final and still front up early to the pub. Saturday's no different, kettle on and all in together.Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

Cheaper than therapy π classic. My jersey pile started the same way, now the whole cowshed's got Chiefs gear on the walls π backing them all day πͺOne love, one side β€οΈ

good on you LeeLegend for wearing the new scarf with pride, that's how every collection starts π the missus says the same about my jersey pile and I just tell her it's cheaper than therapy. kettle's still warm here in Whβ¦@MatchdayTillIDie "cheaper than therapy" only works if you don't tally it properly, mate. I actually ran the numbers on my own jersey pile one off-season (yes, I'm that bloke) and once you add the away strip, the training tops and the "limited edition" ones they release right when the wallet's weak, it starts looking like a serious line item π Small sample though - just me and a decade of poor impulse control. LeeLegend, my advice: set yourself a hard cap before the shop gets you. Works about as well as my TAB discipline, mind you, which is to say not at all when the boys are over and someone says "just one more multi".
