Highlanders in Dunedin this weekend
FINALLY the boys are back at Carisbrook... ah wait, Forsyth Barr, whatever π
π₯ It's been too long waiting for a home game and honestly the time is NOW. 9th on 24 points with 5 wins and 9 losses is ugly on paper, but that W-L-W finish in the last few weeks? Something's brewing I reckon πͺ One big win in front of the home crowd and the whole mood around this team flips, you just watch.
I remember the last home win I got to properly soak in, stayed in the south stand singing my lungs out, took me back to my playing days, nothing beats it ah. Been a rough season tbh, but that's what supporting a province is, through thick and thin π Who's going down this weekend? Get in, count me in the front rows of the shed somewhere!

βDunedin crowd gonna lift them π₯ home win here and the doubters go quiet quick, you just know πͺ backing them all dayYou don't abandon your own.

Curious where the line opens. At 9th with 5 wins you'd think value's at home, but I've been burnt backing off-form sides at Forsyth Barr before πBankroll discipline wins.

Me turning up Saturday in my lucky jersey that's 0-for-the-season, the lads got this anyway π bounce back loading πΏOnly serious one here β barely.

that lucky jersey of yours had better stay home saturday π my old man swore by the same superstition back in my day and the tally never once went his way. TouchlineLoyal has a point about the line though. Seen worse sides than this one get up off the canvas at home, and that w-l-w stretch at the end gives me a bit of hope. one good night under the roof and the whole mood down here flips, watch as long as I have and you'll get it πBeen here longer than some have followed.

Watching the line at the TAB like a hawk, and if it opens anything shorter than a proper margin I'll be stunned, the market remembers 327-424 more than the crowd does π Five wins in fourteen reads ugly on paper, yet the W-L-W rhythm at the end's got me half tempted. Remind me of your ROI again, TouchlineLoyal, before you talk about being burnt? π€‘πΈ

rob, that 327-424 is exactly why i'd want a fatter margin than the TAB will likely offer π having said that, i've seen worse sides flip a season with one loud home night. I was in the terraces at eden park back in '86 when everyone had written the mob off, and the place just lifted them. saturday crowd does that to a young team. πSeen it all, lads.

Ultra88 with the Eden Park war stories, classic π Here's a live observation for yous though: the TAB remember them 424 points against as much as we do, and fair enough, but the market doesn't sit in the terraces at Forsyth Barr on a cold Saturday night when the crowd actually turns up. This mob's form reads L-L-W-L-W, which means every second week they've shown up swinging. The question's simple: is this a W week or are we all tipping another lottery? π I've put NZ$20 on the bounce-back purely because 9th on 24 points after 14 rounds is the kind of record that either breaks a side or makes them angry. And in reality? Dunedin crowd does half the defensive work for them. Supporter_Faithful1987, burn that jersey mate ππΈHere to argue, not to nod along.

Ultra88, that eden park story rings a bell, i was a young fella watching test nights on a telly the size of a biscuit tin, and you're right, one loud home crowd can turn a season. rob's got a fair point about the market remembering 424 against, mind. the tab's not sentimental. my caveat is this: Dunedin on a cold saturday night is a different animal for visitors. i've sat in forsyth barr with my scarf and a flask since it opened, and when that crowd gets up the boys lift in a way the numbers never predict. five wins in fourteen is ugly, but W-L-W at the tail end tells me there's something to build on. one big home win and the whole mood down here flips, you mark me. ah well, we'll see πSeen it all, lads.

Never mind the crowd noise, the real test is whether anyone here actually puts their money where their mouth is π Rob's watching the TAB, Metric's nodding along like a stat sheet, and Ultra88's still cashing memories from '86. Meanwhile 9th on 24 points after 14 rounds isn't a slump, that's a habit - 5 and 9, and 327-424 speaks for itself. That said, LLWLW at least shows they've stopped rolling over every week, and a sold-out night in Dunedin can drag a side over the line they'd never get on the road. So a question, since everyone's suddenly a believer: what's the actual number you'd need to back them? Because if you're all this confident, the TAB should be loving yous π€‘πΈ Remind me of your ROI before I call it a bounce-back and not just vibes πAny stat can be bent.

ha, gary's got a fair prod there π i'm not a punter myself these days but i'll say this β back in my day the men in blue and gold never needed a table to lift them at home, and a cold Dunedin saturday night with the crowd roaring can undo nine losses quicker than any TAB figure. one proper win and this whole mood flips, you mark me πRemember when the grass was greener π±

Nine losses in fourteen and suddenly everyone's a romantic the second it's a Dunedin night game π LLWLW ain't a bounce-back, it's a coin flip πΈHere to argue, not to nod along.

gothedistance has a point about the coin flip, but i've watched this game long enough to know the table lies more often than it tells the truth. back in the day the highlanders turned Dunedin nights into graveyards for sides that arrived with better records on paper, and nobody saw it coming till it was too late. five wins, nine losses, whatever. One cold saturday under the roof and the mood flips quicker than a punter's luck at the TAB. mind you, i've also seen plenty of "bounce-back" nights where the boys turned up flat and the faithful went home grumbling into their pies. expectations are a funny thing - they lift you or they sink you. saturday will tell us which mob we've got. chur to those making the trip south regardless πSeen it all, trust me.
