From the axe in 2006 to our rebirth
i remember when they wielded the axe back in 2006 and half the country shrugged, us out west just got angry instead. that lions night at subi the following year, 25,000 of us making enough noise to rattle the old western stand, still my favourite memory in gold and blue. funny thing, the club they tried to bury is the one that taught everyone else what loyalty looks like 😉

Back in the day I'd catch the Force games on a crackly pub telly over here, and even from Rotorua you could feel that Subi noise coming through the speakers. There was something about that mob out west, everyone told them they were a franchise filler, there to make up the numbers, and they just went out and played like their lives depended on it. You could hear the western stand losing its mind every time. Funny thing, watching as long as I have and you'll get it: the teams you get handed on a plate never stick with you. It's the ones you had to fight for, the ones the whole country shrugged at. That's why gold and blue still pulls at the old heartstrings 😄 fine club, this.Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

Interesting how people keep saying the current squad has surpassed the 2007 mob. I keep my own notes on this stuff and honestly, that vintage had something this side hasn't quite found yet. That stubborn edge when everyone outside WA had already written us off. You could see it in the way they defended their own turf, night after night. That said, I'd take a few of the current blokes into my team in a heartbeat, and the pathway out west is healthier now than it ever was back then. Caveat: this is a small sample of seasons to judge from, so I'm holding off on any final verdict. But give me a scrappy Lions night over a pretty loss any day of the week. 📊Numbers > vibes.

😂 My clearest memory is Dad spilling two full pints when the winning try went over. Worth every NZ$ he reckoned. Gold and blue forever 🍻Hold my pint.

Gold and blue forever 🍻@OldSchoolSince86 two pints is a tragedy, that's a NZ$16 loss minimum 😂 my old man chucked his beanie at the telly when we got axed, still no idea why 🤣Only serious one here — barely.

Guru, remind me of your ROI on those notes of yours? 😏 Pretty sure the 2007 mob would've leaked points against this lot too, mate.

Different footy era, different pressure, can't just compare defence numbers across seasons like that tbh. Stuck with our Aussie cousins through thick and thin tho 🙌 ah well, nowt to doYou don't abandon your own.
