Fiji and Italy are stuck on zero after three rounds while Japan

Nations Championship
Three rounds in and the top is tighter than the bottom, which is the odd bit. Springboks and All Blacks both on 15 from 3, France a point behind on 12, Scotland on 11. Two points covering four teams means the title race is genuinely live, no side has run away with it yet. The relegation end is where the real argument starts though. Japan have 4 from 3, Fiji and Italy both stuck on 0. My read is Italy look most likely to fill one of the bottom two spots, Japan's point already gives them breathing room in a competition where a single bonus point can flip a place. Fiji at 0 is the wildcard, one win and they're level on games with everyone else. Small sample though, three rounds is nowhere near enough to call it with confidence, but if I had to name the bottom two today I'd say Italy and one of Fiji or Japan, and Fiji's zero scares me more than Japan's four. 📊

Us and the Boks level on 15 with three rounds left 🔥 I back our lot to get it done, tired legs won't stop the boys 💪
    One love, one side ❤️

  • Seen this sort of squeeze plenty of times over the years, and the title usually goes down to the last round when four sides are packed that tight. Back in my day the great finishes came from whoever handled travel and tired legs best in the back half, not the fanciest football. My money's on the Boks grinding it out, though the ABs at Eden Park on a clear night are a different animal, as Millie will tell you 😉

Travel and tired legs, sure, but that cuts both ways. The Boks and the ABs being level on 15 tells you nothing until you check who each of them still has to play. I'd want the actual fixture list before calling a winner off a table that's three rounds old. Anyone punting on a champion right now is guessing with extra steps.

  • Everyone's staring at the top of the table but the bottom is where the real worry sits. Japan on 4 from 3 means two losing bonuses or a win has kept them breathing, while Fiji and Italy are on zero, so safety is likely five or more points away already with three rounds left. I could be wrong, but if I had to pick the bottom two I'd say Fiji and Italy, simply because Japan at least banked something. One win for either of them changes the maths completely though, so it's nowhere near settled.
Do the math before you argue.

  • Put my relegation multi leg on Italy and Japan, Fiji at 0 from 3 is worse value even if the line moved. Japan survive on 4, Italy and Fiji go down 😭

  • looks like fiji and italy are having a rough trot, but you watch as long as i have and you'll get it, the season's not over yet.
