Unpopular take: France, not the All Blacks or the Springboks

Nations Championship
Three teams sat within four points of each other after three rounds, which is exactly why I'd take France ahead of the Springboks and the All Blacks if I'm honest. They're on 12 while the Boks and the ABs are both on 15, level, and Scotland are snapping at everyone's heels on 11. I could be wrong, but France only needing to make up three with games in hand potential makes them value, whereas the two co-leaders have to keep trading blows with each other.

Favourites? The ABs are level with the Boks on 15 with a game in hand feel, nah we're right in this 🔥 France on 12 behind us both, Scotland snapping at 11... people writing us off after three rounds, madness tbh. Back the boys all the way, through thick and thin 💪🙌

  • Seen tighter tables than this one in my time, but not many. Back in the old days the thing was usually done and dusted by now, someone four or five clear and everyone else playing for pride. This here with three teams inside four points of each other after three rounds, that's a proper scrap. NickDiehard's got a point about the French too, they've got this habit of peaking when nobody's watching them. FullbackNut, mate, I admire the faith but the ABs being level on 15 with the Boks doesn't make either of them safe. Remember plenty of seasons where the leader in June got run down by the chasers come the business end. Scotland on 11 lurking quietly, and if Japan or the zero-point boys cause an upset along the way, the whole table shifts. My money's still sitting in my pocket rather than at the TAB for this one. Ah well, we'll see.
    Seen it all, lads.

  • Three rounds in and you're calling favourites off a table? Fixtures haven't been the same for any of them. Show me the numbers that actually matter.
    Hype isn't an argument.

  • Kev has a point about the top half, but the bottom of this table is already screaming. Japan on 4 after three rounds looks like the relegation favourites unless something changes fast, while Fiji and Italy haven't even got off the mark at 0 and 3 played. The gap to Japan is only four points though, so a couple of bonus-point wins flip that whole zone. Small sample, three rounds, but zero from three usually doesn't lie.
    Numbers > vibes.

  • How do you look at the sheer lack of life at the bottom of this table? Looking at the form, I'd put my money on Fiji and Italy taking the axe this season. They've managed zero points across three games, so barring some massive, improbable fluke, the relegation market is pretty solid on them. The Boks and All Blacks are clearly the preferred punters' picks for the title currently, but I'm not getting paid enough on the top end to back that heavy.

  • Fair challenge from Kev, but France on 12 with a game in hand over nobody, three teams on 15 or 12 after three rounds, that spread makes the French the value pick. 📊
Do the math before you argue.

  • Twelve points after three rounds makes you favourites now? Back in my day we used to call that mid-table. 😉 The Springboks and the All Blacks are sitting on 15, France are three behind, and somehow the French are the clever pick. Seen it all before, teams talking up a title in October and packing their bags early. And a gentle word for the lads at the bottom. Fiji and Italy on zero is grim, sure, but Japan on 4 after three rounds isn't exactly a lifeboat either. Kev's right that nobody's played the same fixtures yet, so half these hot takes will look silly come round six. The table's tight at the top and ugly at the bottom, that's all anyone can honestly say right now.
