Whisper from the Manawatu camp

Manawatu — Canterbury
Word going round the Turbos camp is they'll freshen the pack after that gutsy 40:34 in Auckland — a couple of the backs who ran hot on 25 September keep their spots, the tired legs from the Waikato trip get spelled 😏 Source reckons the full side drops later this week. You'll all find out soon enough 🤫

Yeah nah, I'll believe the "spelled tired legs" line when the team list drops. Which forwards exactly? Sounds good but show me the numbers on minutes against Waikato before I buy the rotation story.
    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • If BenBlues' whisper is right, the rotation logic writes itself: six days after Hamilton (that 27:36 in Waikato took a toll), plus another short window before Canterbury arrive on 3 October, so the pack from Auckland has to be managed. Keep the backs who ran hot in the 40:34, continuity there costs less physically than in the forwards. Caveat: the sample here is two matches, so a rough night at set-piece would flip this whole argument quickly. Expect the front row refreshed and whoever made the most metres against Auckland to stay. 📊

  • Sorry if this is daft 😅 but what does "spelled" mean here, like the guys literally get rested from the squad? Still learning this stuff, cheers 🙏

  • Not daft at all, GloryDaysLegend, good question. "Spelled" just means rested: a bloke gets left out of the matchday side so his legs recover, nothing sinister. So if the whisper's right, some of the pack that ground out the 40:34 in Auckland sits out Canterbury on 3 October, and fresh forwards take their spot instead. Same idea as a spell in racing - you give the horse a rest so it's right for the next run.

  • Skeptic's got a point though, nobody naming names yet 🤫 All I'll say is the physio room at Palmy was busier than usual after Hamilton. That's all I heard.
    Those who know, know.

  • All this "source reckons" stuff and not one name to show for it 😅 nah mate, I've heard whispers before a team list drops and half the time the bloke who "gets spelled" ends up starting. That six-day turnaround from Waikato to Auckland and they still came home with 40:34, that pack earned its keep, so why gut it for Canterbury who just beat Southland 34:21 with fresh legs from the 26th? Fanatic_Faithful reckons the physio room at Palmy was buzzing after Hamilton, fine, but busier could mean one bloke getting extra rubdowns lol 🤬 I remember a club semi where everyone swore our hooker was done, he played 80 and scored off the back of a maul — ah well, nowt to do but wait for the list and find out 🔥

  • SeenItAllFaithful has a point about whispers, but my source rarely misses on the Turbos rotation calls 🤫 Six days after Hamilton then backing up off that Auckland win, any bloke who played both is running on fumes by the 3rd. Names will come when the list drops, you know the rest 😏
Solid source, details in the DMs.

  • back in my day we'd just look at the physio queue at training to know who was in doubt 😄 seen it all before, after a six-day turnaround like Hamilton then that 40:34 slog in Auckland, rotation is a fair bet, and Canterbury off a 34:21 win over Southland won't be tired. the manager might surprise by keeping a couple of hot backs on, so i'd wait for the list before tipping anything 😉
