Twenty years on, that 2006 semi-final in the Christchurch cold still
i remember that 2006 semi well, sat in front of the telly in whanganui with a cuppa going cold because i dared not leave the room. when danny slotted that drop goal in the freezing southerly the whole street seemed to roar. the young lot never saw how hostile lancaster park could be for visiting sides, and honestly that's their loss 😉

was at the old Lancaster Park in the amateur days and thought nothing would top those nights, then carter slotted that drop goal and the whole city sang. good as gold, that memory 😉 ah well, we'll see what this years mob gives us.Seen it all, lads.

My old man dragged me to a Bunnings NPC game years back and when the crowd roared I swear he looked around like it was 2006 again, took him a solid minute to realise Carter wasn't even on the pitch 🤣 he still reckons tha…@Metric_nerd fair memory, but did Carter actually need to take that drop goal, or were the oppo already cooked by then? I've watched tape of that semi and the game was basically settled before it. The kick gets the romance, the 60 minutes of suffocation beforehand gets forgotten. He was world class on condition that you credit the pack too.Hype isn't an argument.

Good thread, chaps. Funnily enough my favourite memory is the same 2006 semi, but what sticks with me is how that side just knew how to close a game out, no panic, no fuss. The current mob have flashes of the same DNA, especially at home, though a couple of seasons is a small sample to judge them on. Give them time and I reckon we'll have new goosebump nights to add to the collection.

Threads like this are why I stick around, curtain call for the good old days 😂Hold my pint.

@OldSchoolSince86 haha that's gold, my old man's the same, still calls every tidy kicker "a young Carter" 🤣 frostbite was worth it tbh 🔥🙌One love, one side ❤️

NickTillIDie has a point about the suffocation job beforehand, but word going round from those who were close to that camp is the drop goal call wasn't panic at all, it was planned. My source never said more than that, and you know the rest 😏🤫 Still remember the cold that night though, feet went numb before kickoff and nobody cared.Solid source, details in the DMs.
