ah, where do you even start, lads. i remember the nights at lancaster park before the rebuild, when the whole place seemed to shake on its foundations - back in the day we'd pile in with the thermos and a pie, and you could feel the roar through the old concrete stands. seen it all before, but the 2000s run still gives me shivers. mccaw lifting that silverware year after year, carter pulling strings, the whole dynasty thing, mean, we honestly thought it'd never end 😄 my old man took me to my first final when i was a young fella and i've been red and black ever since. those Addington nights, the crowd singing itself hoarse in the southerly... they don't make atmospheres quite like that anymore, eh. would love to hear your favourite memories, lads. Pull up a chair 🍻

Thermos and pie at the old Lancaster Park... mate you're taking me back 😭🔥 I was just a kid watching from the couch but the whole street roared when the boys lifted that cup 💪🖤

  • the roar down the telly when mccaw hoisted that trophy again, our lounge in invercargill sounded like half the neighbourhood had crammed in. my old man took me to lancaster park back in the amateur days and even then the concrete seemed to hum, funny how a pile of old stands can hold forty years of noise in it. what gets me is how routine those dynasty years felt at the time. another june night, another final, addington bellowing itself silly, and we just assumed it would keep going forever. you only realise how golden it was looking back. seen worse decades as a fan, mind 😄 ah well, we'll see what this crop serves up next.
    Seen it all, lads.

  • Metric_nerd, that post about your old man at the park got me right in the chest. My old lady took me to a semi in the 90s and I still reckon the old stands had more soul than concrete ever should've had. Funny thing is, when I compare the dynasty boys with the current side, my gut says the through-line matters more than the differences. Richie's mob just ground you into the dirt until you broke; the current crew play with a bit more edge and flair, and you can see the same red and black pride running through them. Is this lot the equal of the 2000s side? Ask me again after a couple more titles, ha. But watching them run out at Addington with the whole neighbourhood roaring like your lounge in Invercargill, I feel the same chills. Same heart, different bones 🖤

  • Old stands, eh, I'll add mine, the queues for the pie warmer moved quicker back then than half our scrum ball does these days 😄. Best memory's simple for me: those dynasty nights when you'd walk out of Addington hoarse and happy, win or lose the voice was gone by Monday. Same here lads, good times.
Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

  • my dad reckons the old pie warmer queue was the only line that never let the Crusaders down 🤣 lost my voice at Addington so bad once the boss thought I had the flu. worth every NZ$ 🖤

@Metric_nerd I was too young for Lancaster Park but my old man says the same thing about the noise there. Don't laugh, but what made the old stands feel so much louder, do you reckon? 😅
    New here, soaking it up.

  • Nostalgia's doing the rounds tonight and nobody's mentioned the smell of a hot pie at Addington in winter, that alone was worth the entry 😂 And Josh, no shame in asking, old stands were tighter to the pitch, noise had nowhere to go but back at ya. Modern bowls eat sound like my missus eats my wages 🤡
Here to argue, not to nod along.

@GoTheDistanceOrNothing the acoustics point stacks up, tight stands plus a low roof would trap the sound alright. But half these "louder back then" claims are just memory doing the editing, nobody recorded decibels at Addington. Show me a comparison with a modern full house and I'll concede it, on condition that the grounds are actually comparable in crowd size.
    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.
