Time to raid the Crusaders: who's our dream signing at fly-half
Righto, before the Crusaders fanboys pile in - word is floating around that a certain playmaker with 50-odd caps is off contract come 2026, and there's muttering he wouldn't mind a fresh start somewhere the ball actually moves. Say nothing more, read between the lines 😏
Imagine him pulling the strings at North Harbour in Moana colours. I'd have a cheeky few NZ$ on us making the top four if that landed. Someone wake me up when it's official.

✓"Muttering he wouldn't mind a fresh start", source on that? Or is this just a rumour someone started after a few beers at the clubhouse?

Mate imagine him in our colours 😍🔥 we've been crying out for a proper 10 who moves the ball, someone with 50-odd caps already knows the big stage, no nerves. Our young halves could learn heaps off him too tbh. Who cares if it's rumour at this stage GloryDays, every signing starts as clubhouse talk 😂 if he wants the ball moving and we want the ball moving, that's a match made in heaven. North Harbour Stadium would be ROCKING 💪One love, one side ❤️

Before anyone gets carried away, count it through: a 10 with 50-odd caps will be pushing 30 by 2026, and clubs rarely let proven playmakers walk when the rebuild window hits. Salary cap room is our real hurdle, we'd need to shift money around for a marquee-type deal, and NZR's contracting process doesn't favour us there. Nice dream though, small sample of actual evidence so far 📊Numbers > vibes.

Seen it with my own eyes a few times live - when the ball actually gets width, that bloke still puts his wingers away sweet, the problem's always been the pattern around him, his hands are fine 😏 GloryDays if you want a source, ring the man himself, I'm too busy planning the welcome banner at North Harbour. Sure thing, mate, every punter at the TAB's already got him in Moana colours for 2026 🤡💸

GloryDays asking for a source on rugby gossip is peak stuff, but fair enough, half these rumours die on contact with facts. BadBeatKing's got a point though. Teams don't usually let a proven 10 walk mid-rebuild, so until someone shows the numbers I'm treating it as clubhouse talk. That said, if he does end up off contract and cheap enough, I'd take him tomorrow; seen him live once and his distribution was still sharp even when everything around him was falling apart.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

@RobbedAgainHater318 maybe I'm wrong but doesn't the rebuild argument cut both ways? If they're rebuilding, the older 10 might be surplus anyway. Still learning this stuff so happy to be corrected 😅 and yeah I'll believe it when the jersey photo drops, not before 🤔

Even if it falls through, chasing him is the right vibe 🔥 our last 10 seasons of make-do halves have cost us more than one bad contract ever would. Rebuild argument doesn't scare me either tbh. Guys with 50-odd caps who feel underused somewhere always find another gear when the team actually backs them. Get it done 🙌You don't abandon your own.

BadBeatKing's rebuild argument doesn't scare me much either - how many times have we seen the Crusaders stockpile two quality 10s and let the surplus rot on the bench? If the tape shows his hands are fine and the pattern around him was the problem, then a fresh system might be exactly what unlocks him. I could be wrong, but I'd rather pay one proven playmaker than another season of make-do halves hoping she'll be right.Do the math before you argue.

i've been watching these rumours come and go since the amateur days, cousins, and i'll tell you straight, half the big names we've been told were "as good as signed" over the years never pulled on the jersey. back in my day it was every winter the same story, some mate of a mate swearing a big signing was done and dusted, and by season's start he's playing somewhere else entirely. seen worse gossip than this one, mind, but i've also seen better. still, rob's right to keep the feet on the ground — clubhouse talk travels faster than contract ink. but imagine the old boy actually landing here, chloe's banner waving at north harbour... that's a pleasant thing to dream on while we wait. time will tell, as my old man used to say. and he was usually right 😄Been here longer than some have followed.
