you know, thinking about those late nights at fors, seeing the blokes pull off a massive shock win... it takes you back. i remember one particular match, years ago, when the crowd just absolutely erupted after that second try. it felt like the ground was shaking right there in smith street. it wasn't just the score, really, it was the atmosphere. watching the way the team fought, refusing to back down even when they were down, it shows what a lot of heart those lads have, regardless of who they play against. seeing that kind of character make you realise that rugby is about far more than just the six points on the board, doesn't it? those are the moments you live for, even when you're just watching from a bar. it's memories like those that keep the game special.

Mate that eruption you're talking about, I was there for one of those nights and my ears rang for two days after 😂 took the lads down from Napier for it and when that second try went over the whole stand just lifted off the ground, hugs with complete strangers, grown men crying, the lot 💪🙌 you just know those nights are why we back them through thick and thin 🔥

  • Funny you mention ears ringing, because mine did too after one night back in the amateur days when I'd driven up from Whanganui with a carload of cousins. No roof on the old grounds then, and when the noise went up it just rolled out into the Dunedin night like thunder off the harbour. Grown men crying? Aye, my uncle Jack was one of them and he'd deny it to his grave 😄 The thing the young lot never saw is what those nights cost us back then. A day off work, a tank of petrol, no replays on the telly, so if you weren't there you just weren't there. Made every roar feel earned somehow. Ah well, we'll see if this year's mob can give us another one of those evenings.
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

  • The noise was so loud we thought the whole block in Smith Street was gonna need structural repairs. Pass me another one before I lose my hearing! 😂🤣
    Hold my pint.
