Because that's the part everyone glosses over, finish bottom and you're not building anything, you're just bleeding players to other provinces who'll actually give them game time. Our kid from the club final gets pumped by 40 in round one, loses confidence, and by October he's signed with Tasman. Concede the sentiment might be right on condition that we actually keep those fifteen boys and develop them. Show me the retention plan first. Otherwise the loan guy costing us maybe twenty points at Semenoff Stadium while our own kid learns NPC footy off the bench sounds like the better deal for Northland long-term. Not convinced the spoon itself does anything for anyone.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

Paul_Fan asks the right question, and the answer is a decade of a homegrown Taniwha against one night of scoreboard pain, I'll take the decade every time. My old man kept scorebooks at Semenoff through the 90s and the borrowed-pack seasons soured him off the game entirely. Caveat: twenty points is a guess until we actually see the kid's workrate in round one, small sample though it'll be. 📊

Which TAB market are you actually reading, RobbedAgain? Round one NPC lines barely exist until the teams are named midweek, and I've never seen one hung at twenty a fortnight out. Source on that number, or is it pub talk? Kid should still start regardless, mind, just don't dress a gut feeling up as the odds.

Still, strip the pub number away and the argument stands on its own: a club-final No. 8 learning at Semenoff is worth more to us in two years than three months of an Auckland loan, even if round one gets ugly.
