Tate McDermott is carrying this Reds side so hard that the rest of
Anyone watching Tate wind up off the base knows the 10 jersey is just a delivery service at this stage π€‘ Whoever's wearing it should be paying rent, simple as. I'd take the bloke who actually feeds him quick ball over any fancy name. And in reality, half the backline's been riding his line breaks all season. Bet the TAB still makes them favourites with McDermott in the side, funny that π

βMcDermott running hard doesn't make the 10 a passenger, it usually means the forwards and midfield are winning collisions first. If the service was as rotten as you claim, Tate would be box-kicking out of trouble every ruck instead of breaking the line. I'll concede the point on condition that whoever wears 10 next week actually stamps some games rather than coasting on his work.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

Hard out, some of yous underrate the bloke π€ Tate's been MINT this season and half the backline's coasting off it, more line breaks than the whole starting back three combined, c'mon! Whoever gets the No. 10 better earn it feeding him quick ball or I'm gonna lose it π€¬π΄On the terraces since I was a kid.

Hater318 has a point. Tate's breaks usually come off quick ruck ball, so the 10's service matters plenty. But the back three's numbers are damning, I could be wrong.

Reminds me of the old days when a halfback carried everything on his back and the 10 just had to know where to stand - seen worse than a No. 10 whose whole job is shovelling Tate quick ball, mate. Back in the amateur era at the park we'd have called that a fair day's work π ah well, we'll see who earns the jersey.Seen it all, lads.

I've got a spreadsheet open for this exact argument, and yes, it's colour-coded. TouchlineFaithful is basically right - Tate's line break count against the starting back three is damning on its own, and small sample though a few rounds might be, the pattern's been consistent every time I've logged it. NickDiehard's caveat is fair too: those breaks mostly come off quick ruck ball, so the 10's clearing speed genuinely matters. My one addendum: don't hand the jersey out on service alone. Seen it in the Bunnings NPC plenty of times. A tidy 10 shovels fast ball all season and still goes missing when the defence rushes him. Whoever wears it for the Reds needs to threaten the line himself, otherwise opposition centres just sit on Tate and the whole thing dries up. Feed him quick, sure, but earn the rent first. πNumbers > vibes.

π A spreadsheet with colour coding, mate, you've got more effort in that than the back three's got in their season. I'd have the 10's job dead simple: ship it to Tate fast and get out of the road. Anyone taking longer than two seconds over that decision shouldn't just lose the jersey, they should refund their match fee π€‘ Mean call, but the rent joke's not far off.Any stat can be bent.

Nah fellas, quick ball means nought if the 10 can't hit the gap himself either π€ seen that play die too many times. Tate can't do EVERYTHING, ah well, nowt to do πͺYou don't abandon your own.

@SeenItAllFaithful don't laugh if this is daft, but how do we even know the 10 can hit gaps when he's hardly getting clean ball to start with? Seems like the problem starts way before that play dies π I'm still learning all this, so can someone explain simply what a decent service actually looks like here? Cheers πLearn something new every day.

ah SeenItAllFaithful, you've got a point but the lad's doing his best with scraps π back in my day the 10 was the bloke who controlled the tempo and made everyone around him look good, and that's still the job description. A No.10 who hits gaps but feeds Tate slow, static ball is just a shiner in a nicer jersey. give me the bloke who gets him moving first, everything else is decoration.Remember when the grass was greener π±

Happy to concede McDermott's carrying more than his share, but on condition that someone shows me the 10's actually getting clean ball to work with, half those raids start with Tate digging it out himself. If the feed's that scrappy, blaming whoever wears the jersey for not hitting gaps is a bit rich. I'll believe the rent argument when I see one of the outside backs create a break for him for a change.

Retro_Faithful's caveat is where I'd park this for now, honestly. I could be wrong, but until someone shows me how often the 10's actually receiving clean ball versus Tate digging it out himself, the rent joke stays funny and stays unanswerable π Both things can be true: the jersey needs a running threat, and Tate's still doing the digging. Keep the argument open, fellas.Do the math before you argue.
