From Suncorp nights to Ballymore mud
i remember watching that 2011 grand final from my old man's lounge in Dunedin, both of us yelling at the telly like idiots when cooper floated that flick out wide - you could hear the 'queenslander' roar right through the speakers 😄 back in the day i'd trekked to a few reds away trips, but that night at suncorp still gives me proper goosebumps every rewatch. seen worse nights, that's for sure.

ah, that night... funny thing is i'd watched rugby since before the good lord put grass on eden park, and that flick from cooper still sits near the top of the pile. my son was a young fella then, we had the BBQ going at his place here in whanganui, and when the roar came through the telly even the neighbours' dog started howling 😄 the young lot never saw ballymore mud like we did - reds fellas caked to the hips, but 2011 was the night it all came good.Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

I'd temper the comparisons a bit. That 2011 side had Cooper at his absolute peak plus Genia and Slipper in their prime, and it's rare a club gets three of those in one generation. The current mob have real talent and a better forward pack than some give them credit for, but I could be wrong, and I often am with young sides, they need another season or two before we crown them. Chills all the same every time I rewatch that flick out wide. 📊Do the math before you argue.
