Word is there's a certain Hurricanes development midfielder who hasn't re-signed and wouldn't mind a move down the coast where he'd actually get game time, won't say names, but if it lands, that's our 12 sorted for the next few years. Half-gossip, half-hope, take it for what it's worth 😏

Define your terms first: which contract actually expired, who's reported it, and why would a Hurricanes developmental midfielder pick Hawke's Bay over chasing a Super squad spot? I'll believe it when I see the signing announcement on the Magpies page, not word-of-mouth from a punter who won't say names. I'd pump the brakes on the unnamed Hurricane theory, honestly. A "development midfielder" hunting game time usually means a bloke in his early twenties who hasn't cracked a Super squad yet, and the logistics are shakier than they look, why would he pick Hawke's Bay over a province with stronger pathway links? I could be wrong, but transfers like that rarely land without a connection already in the squad. What I'd back is an internal fix first. Our 12 issue this season looked defensive more than anything, slow jab out of the channel, inside defender exposed on second phase. A good NPC standard defender with a big boot resets a lot of that without a transfer gamble. Context matters: if the rumour lad is over 24 and has actual first-class minutes, it becomes credible; if he's a teenager with a handful of club games, it's beer talk, as Hannah says. 📊Do the math before you argue.

frankly a young canes midfielder picking us over Wellington or whoever, stranger things have happened. we gave stubby game time once and look how that turned out. back in my day the rumours were worse 😉Been here longer than some have followed.

Funny thing is I sat behind the posts at McLean Park twice this season and both times the try came straight off their 12 stepping inside our man 🤡 so yeah, count me among the desperate for whoever that mystery canes kid is. Funny how this mystery canes kid grows a leg every time someone mentions him. One unnamed midfielder, no position confirmed, no source, and suddenly half the thread has him solving the 12 channel for the next five years. I've kept a tally of our "done deal" signings over the years and the hit rate would make a TAB punter wince. Now, if he does come — fine, I'll happily eat my words at the first home game. But a hungry 22yo only fixes our defence if someone actually coaches him where to stand, because UncleAllDay, the channel problem this season was structural as much as personnel. Funny thing about skeptics, BadBeatKing, I've watched this club since the amateur days and half our best signings started as "no source" whispers that turned out dead right 😄 Old news always breaks slowly out of Wellington, so I'm keeping the faith until someone confirms otherwise. The 12 channel needs fixing either way, mystery kid or no.Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.
