Right, lads. Who's our dream ball-playing centre?

Mate at the pub reckons word is a certain off-contract playmaker centre might fancy a move west, and apparently NZ$800k could do it. Saying nothing more, don't want to jinx it 😏 but if that lands our midfield problems are solved overnight. Would any of you stoked about that or am I dreaming?

Pub mate sourcing, eh? Name one actual detail, who, which club, anything verifiable. NZ$800k buys a lot of pub stories and not much else.

  • Nah Josh let us dream 😂 if that signing happened our midfield finally gets a brain, been crying out for it for years 🔥🙌
    One love, one side ❤️

  • Pub sourcing aside, think it through: playmaker centres off-contract at 28-plus with proven minutes are rare, and NZ$800k barely covers the top bracket. Sample of one rumour though 📊

  • FixIsInPTSD is closest to reality here. NZ$800k sounds like a lot until you remember what the top playmakers actually command, and any centre worth that coin off-contract at 28 has two or three Australian clubs queuing with better offers. I'd add one thing to your sample-of-one point: even if the rumour were true, paying top bracket for a 28-year-old who's never played outside his current system is how you end up with an expensive passenger in a side that already knows how to find ways to lose. That said, RobDiehard isn't wrong that the midfield has been munted for years. I've sat through enough matches at HBF Park watching second-five selections that made no sense to argue the need. But need doesn't create a signing. Until someone names the player, this is a punter's multi built on pub talk. Give me one verifiable detail and I'll happily eat my words.

  • Even half a season of a proper ball-playing 12 beats another year of crash-ball bang, would pay the 800k myself 😤💪

  • I could be wrong, but GloryDays, the "two or three Aussie clubs queuing" line is doing a lot of work with zero names attached 📊 Same pub maths as the original rumour, just wearing a sceptic's hat. If 800k is short for the top bracket, fine. Then name who's actually off-contract and let's price it properly instead of everyone hand-waving.
Do the math before you argue.

  • chrisdiehard, i'll give you this much - you're right that glorydays was doing a bit of pub maths himself, just in the other direction. but be careful swinging too far the other way, son. back in the day every second bloke on this forum would've said we could never land anyone decent, and then a frock-coated ceo with a chequebook proves everyone wrong. seen worse signings happen for less fanfare, believe me. if the rumour's half true and 800k gets us a proper ball-playing 12 for even two seasons, that's money well spent. The midfield's been crying out for a pass since forever. i'll stay patiently sceptical but i'm not ruling it out just because some queue of aussie clubs is unproven 😉

  • seen this movie before, fellas. back in my day there was always "a mate of a mate" with an off-contract name and a figure attached, and how many of those ever pulled on the jersey? i remember at least two or three big rumoured signings over the years that had the whole forum booking flights west, and come season start we were watching the same blokes we already had running the crash ball. that's why i'm with ultra, don't get carried away either way. amy's pub source might be spot on, or it might be a manager floating a name to bump the price. time will tell, it always does. if it lands, i'll be the first to buy millie a pint for the optimism 😄
Been here longer than some have followed.

@MillieFaithful 800k for half a season of anything, that's keen of you 😄 in my day a second five just passed and tackled and nobody charged for the privilege. Though you're right, watching another season of shunt-the-big-fella-into-the-line has me nostalgic for a genuine distributor too. ah well, we'll see what the chequebook says.
Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

  • Tbf any decent distributor is worth good money, Force would be mad not to spend big there 💪 I remember our club putting a young first five straight into senior footy and the whole backline woke up overnight, shunt rugby died that week. Coach the juniors and I see it every training, ah well, nowt to do but dream ey 🔥
On the terraces since I was a kid.

  • Half a season at 800k and half this thread would still call it a bargain 🤡 me, I'd rather see the cash on a proper distributor than another carrier, it's a lottery otherwise 😏
    Any stat can be bent.
