Right, lads, who's our dream signing at fly-half
Word is that ex-Chiefs ten might be off contract, and the talk of him pulling on a Force jumper at HBF Park for about NZ$800k a season has done the rounds π Can we afford him? Probably not, but a bloke can dream. Someone in the WA front office better be on the TAB lines right now checking the odds.

βSource on that? The same mill that had us signing a Wallabies lock twice last year, or has this one actually got a byline? NZ$800k for a bloke who'd need to uproot and move to Perth. I'll believe it when I see it. Happy to be proven wrong, on condition that someone posts a link and not just a mate's cousin's rumour.

Sign me up π₯ We've been screaming for a proper ten for years β someone steering us round the park at HBF Park? NZ$800k well spent tbh, dream big lads πͺ

I did a quick sanity check before getting excited, and the age curve is the first thing that jumps out. If we're talking about the ten I think we are, he's the wrong side of 30, and halfbacks and flyhalves tend to fall off a cliff once the legs go. You can hide an ageing lock, you can't hide a ten who can't flat-foot a defender. Then there's the geography: Perth is a genuinely hard sell for a bloke with family in the Waikato, and WA rugby has a habit of paying an over on the salary to cover exactly that. So NZ$800k a season is probably the floor, once you count relocation and a goodwill top-up. Retro's scepticism is well founded. Remember the mill had us locking in that Wallaby lock twice before anyone put pen to paper. Small sample though, and if the ex-Chiefs man genuinely wants one last contract and no NZ franchise can fit him under the cap, the Force is exactly the sort of place players end up when the dominoes fall that way.Numbers > vibes.

BadBeatKing's got a point on the age curve, that's the bit nobody wants to hear. I'd still take him at NZ$800k for two seasons if the legs check out - I watched him carve us up live in Tauranga a while back and the game management was still there. But receipts please on the contract rumour first; I've been burned too many times.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

Watched him run a midweek Bunnings NPC game off the bench and he still controlled tempo like it was a test π± NZ$800k for two seasons, get in, dream big π₯You don't abandon your own.

Ha, I've seen this movie before, lads, big-name ten "off contract", the rumour mill churning, and come signing day he's wearing someone else's colours π Back in my day we chased a couple of those too and they fell over at the medical, every time. Still, NZ$800k for a bloke who can steer a game like that... time will tell, eh.Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

Don't laugh, but what does "medical" actually involve in these deals? Seen it mentioned twice now π

I'd take that bet at NZ$800k over two seasons β half the price of a dodgy multi leg. OldSchool is right though, I've had plenty of "locked in" punts fall over late, and the medical is exactly that stage: full physical, scans on the knees and hamstrings, club's out if anything flags. If his legs pass, the game management pays for itself.Value over a big price πΈ

Reckon the medical stuff is always a dodge, tbh. Gotta grab a quality ten if we wanna go! πͺπ₯π±One love, one side β€οΈ
