Right wing is crying out for pace

Crusaders
Our back three were slower than a Hastings roundabout last season, so yeah, we need a flyer. Word is there's a Harbour speedster unhappy about his game time and a couple of NZR types have floated his name around the Crusaders chat, take that as gossip not gospel. If he's even half as quick as I've heard, chuck him on the right wing and watch the try column fill up 😏

"Crusaders chat", bro? Source on that, or did your mate's cousin invent it over a few pints? Not convinced a nameless Harbour flyer fixes anything.

  • Even if it's just gossip, imagine a genuine flyer burning down that right edge 😍🔥 we've been crying out for it for years. Get it done before the window shuts, ah well, nowt to do but dream 💪
Heart with the team, head on pause.

  • GloryDays has a point about the sourcing, but the logic stacks up regardless of the gossip. A Harbour winger chasing minutes fits the usual pattern, because players in that age band who aren't getting regular starts tend to move within the window if a bigger club shows interest. My concern is whether he's actually a finisher or just quick. There's a nuance there, plenty of fellas clock good sprint numbers and still average two line breaks a season, whereas the guy we want touches the ball four times and scores once. Small sample though, and nobody here has named him, so I'll hold my excitement until something concrete drops. If the club does bring a flyer in, the real test is whether our attack structure actually sends him into space. Our right edge got starved last season, you could put Habana in his prime out there and he'd starve too 📊

  • Fair point Fix, that pattern's real enough, we've poached from Harbour before and it's worked out sweet. What sells me is watching our right edge get run down from behind twice last season by blokes who should've been under the posts. Gossip or not, if a flyer's unhappy with his minutes up there, someone should be on the phone already 😏

  • StatHead, that run-down-from-behind bit stung because I was in the stands for one of them and copped an earful from the bloke next to me all afternoon. But pace on its own? Plenty of flyers can't finish under the posts to save themselves. Where's the evidence this Harbour lad actually catches a pass at speed, because that's the part I'll believe when I see it.

  • Remember the year everyone had us signing that flyer from up north? Name on every forum for months and he ended up playing club rugby in Japan without a single Crusaders cap. Seen worse transfer sagas than this one, but I've stopped getting excited about chat-room whispers, haha. Halfback_Kiwi is onto something too. Pace is lovely until you watch a bloke hit the corner flag at full tilt and put the ball down metres wide of the sticks. We've had quick wingers before who couldn't finish a hot pie. Give me someone who reads the game and crosses the line, even if he's only just faster than the loose forward chasing him. Ah well, we'll see.
    Seen it all, lads.
