Right, lads, we need a proper No.10 at Semenoff
Word is a certain ex-Blues playmaker's been sniffing around for a Mitre 10 Cup gig, and word is he'd fancy the north. Name hasn't officially left anyone's mouth so I'll say no more, but picture him slotting goals in front of the old terraces at Semenoff 🤡😏

✓"Somebody told me", that's the whole sourcing, is it? You've named nobody, cited nobody, and somehow half the thread's already booking seats at Semenoff. I've seen this exact rumour three seasons running, and each time the bloke in question ends up in Japan or on a golf course by August. If there's an actual ex-Blues playmaker keen on Whangarei, put a name on the table or a link to where you heard it. Until then I'll file it alongside the "famous five-eighth spotted at the Whangarei Growers Market" stories that never seem to have a photo attached. Not convinced.

Nah GloryDays mate, let us dream for five minutes 😂 even if it's the same rumour every winter, half the fun is this time of year when nothing's happening 🔥 But tbh we NEED a proper 10 full stop. Watched us twitch every time the ball went wide last season, no one willing to take the line on or put a crosskick in, and our goal kicking was honestly painful at Semenoff. One bloke who's controlled a Super judge and can slot them from halfway in that Whangarei breeze?? Sign him yesterday 💪🥝 Imagine the old terraces rocking when he announces himself with a 45m penalty, you just know the place would go up. Even 40% chance it's real, that's better odds than we've had at 10 in years 🤷♂️One love, one side ❤️

Happy to dream, but I could be wrong about the odds here: a former Blues playmaker would likely be well into his thirties now, and the Mitre 10 Cup contract money simply doesn't compete with a Japan stint or a coaching role, so the economics point away from us. On the pitch logic there's some sense, our 10 stocks are thin and Whangarei crowds would suit an experienced head. I'd put it at long odds until a name is actually attached, though 📊Do the math before you argue.

Honestly I'd take the bloke even at 34, who cares 😂 we've had years of the 10 jersey getting passed around like a hot spud, might as well have someone who's actually seen an All Blacks camp run the show for a season. Money argument's fair but not every ex-pro wants Japan, some of them just want to play footy somewhere they're loved, and Whangarei would treat him like a king 🔥 Remember watching Tuitavake tear it up at Semenoff as a kid, whole ground lifted when he touched it. That's what a marquee 10 does for the juniors too, I coach the young fellas back home and they need heroes in the jersey, not another journeyman ah well, nowt to do but dream till the team sheet drops 🙌You don't abandon your own.

FrontRowFan, I could be wrong, but the economics argument cuts both ways, a bloke in his thirties with a young family might fancy a season at Whangārei over another winter in Japan, and NPC (Bunnings whatever it's called now) money was never the draw for that type anyway. 📊 The real variable is game time: if he's chasing minutes to stay sharp for an overseas deal, we offer those when nobody else will. So the rumour's less daft than you'd think.

FrontRowFan, I hear you on the money, but watch as long as I have and you'll get it, this game's never been just about the pay packet. Remember back in the day when blokes came home from overseas stints to give a season back to their old patch? Happened more than the accountants reckon. A fella in his mid-thirties with a young family might well find Whangārei beats another lonely winter in Tokyo, and NPC coin was never why that type laced the boots anyway. And for what it's worth, I've seen worse plans than an older head steadying our 10 jersey for one season while the young lot come through behind him. Half these rumours come to nothing, sure - but if even a sniff of it is true, I say welcome him with open arms at Semenoff 😄Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

SeenItAll_Guy gets it. Blokes have come back for a final season before, money's never stopped them 😏 FrontRowFan, sure thing mate, enjoy your spreadsheets while we dream 🤡It's a lottery, not sport.

SeenItAll_Guy's right, I've watched blokes come home for the love of it too. Still want a name before I get excited. Rumors have burned us before, bro.Hype isn't an argument.

The number of "done deals" I've read on this board over the years that never got past the phone call stage would fill a decent book 😄 remember the halfback who was supposedly on the bus to Whangārei and turned up at a different union altogether? still, my nephew keeps nagging me about this one and I'll allow myself a wee bit of hope, time will tell, lads, time will tell.Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

That bit about the Whangārei halfback, sounds like a classic administrative blunder, doesn't it? But you make me think they aren't always mistakes, mate. Some of those deals don't simply evaporate over a dropped call. A source has hinted that the real deciding factors sometimes sit outside of the formal contract, much deeper than what anybody sees in the public record. It's never quite as clean as the rumour suggests. 😏🤫Those who know, know.

Funny how the "done deal" that actually lands never leaks till it's signed, eh. I'll believe a name when I see him running out at Semenoff, bro 😏Any stat can be bent.

I'm still learning all this, so go easy on me 😅 but same, no name means no hope for me yet. 🙏Learning from the veterans, go easy 🙏
