Right, lads - we need a proper enforcer at openside flanker

The way we got shredded at Forsyth Barr last season was embarrassing, seriously. Eight turnovers is just unacceptable when you've got the engine in the rest of the squad. Seems like the board is spinning their wheels looking for solutions, but word is there's been some murmurs about a big openside signing heading our way. I heard whispers that there are serious talks going around for a powerhouse flanker. Maybe someone like that aggressive captain from the Blues. And they're looking at a massive transfer fee, probably in the range of $600k to $800k NZD, depending on the add-ons they throw in. We just need someone to shut the ruck down and actually win the contact battle, mate.

You reckon eight turnovers at one game is the whole narrative for the season? We’ll need more data than a single match's incident to justify a roster overhaul. What were the actual season-long metrics on breakdown wins versus losses before we start demanding signatures?
    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • honestly what are they even looking at, bro? those stats don't matter when you see the ruck chaos on the pitch 😠 we were absolutely hammered at Forsyth Barr, let's be real. we need someone massive who just dominates the breakdown, pure aggression. we can't keep taking on those sloppy errors. I reckon we'd need someone like Falgarno, actually maybe bigger, and that kind of man could come to us for like NZ$250k a year, max. if we got the cash, we'd get a genuine enforcer who gets in! our lot never made it easy for us at the plate, so it's time they showed the same hunger at the ruck. 🔥😭
    One love, one side ❤️

  • Paul_Fan's got a point about sample size, but one horror night at Forsyth Barr plus a full season of soft ruck ball is enough evidence for me. The catch is the market: any genuinely dominant openside who fits Super Rugby is either 30-plus, which flatters nobody at NZ$600k a season, or an uncapped kid you take a punt on for a fraction of that. Realistically I'd chase the young prospect and develop him, rather than blow the salary cap on a big name past his best. 📊

  • BackRow lad's got it right, even if the numbers crowd squirms. I've sat through enough southerly nights at Carisbrook to know when a pack's being bullied, and you don't fix that with spreadsheets. Give me a mongrel No.7 on NZ$400k over a fancy 30-year-old on NZ$600k any day, the young lot never saw what a real fetcher did to a derby.

  • Ha, every couple of seasons we talk ourselves into a marquee No.7 and then watch the deal quietly die over work permits or a patellar tendon. Remember when we all reckoned that big South African fetcher was done and dusted? Never even landed in Dunedin. So aye, name your dreamy pick if you like, but time will tell whether the board actually stumps up the NZ$600k or whatever it takes. 😄
Been here longer than some have followed.
