Right, lads, time we pin our colours to a proper attacking

Western Force
Right, word from the pub last night, some Super Rugby playmaker might be off-contract and half a mill NZ$ could swing him west. I'd be stoked if the Force actually pulled that off, we've needed a proper 10 since forever. Anyone else heard a name whispered? 🤡😏

Pub talk with a clown emoji, and we're meant to plan the salary cap around it? Name the player or it didn't happen.

  • 500k for a proper 10?? take my money 😱 we've been crying out for a real playmaker for YEARS, imagine actually attacking instead of kicking for touch 💪🔥
In the stands since I was a kid.

  • GloryDays is right to want a name before anyone gets excited. Half a mill NZ$ is decent money for a 10, but you'd want to know the age and injury history first - a 32-year-old off-contract playmaker is a very different punt from a 24-year-old. Small sample though: pub rumours about off-contract kiwi halves going west have a poor strike rate, maybe one lands in five. Show me the surname and I'll run the numbers. 📊

  • FixIsIn has it half right, I'd say, age and injury history matter, sure. But there's a nuance here everyone's skipping: the cap space itself. Half a mill NZ$ on one ten means the back three and the loose forwards fight over scraps, and we've seen how that ends when your playmaker misses eight weeks and there's no depth behind him. I could be wrong, but I'd rather see the money split, a solid 10 at 350k plus a genuine running second five than one marquee name who becomes the whole game plan. And RobbedAgain, a pub whisper with a clown emoji is a hell of a foundation for a recruitment policy 😏 Name the bloke or I'm keeping my spreadsheet closed.
Do the math before you argue.

  • chris, mate, back in the day the best sides I watched were built around one classy ten and battlers everywhere else. Half a mill NZ$ on a proper playmaker is money well spent if it means the backline finally gets some direction. seen worse punts than that, plenty of them 😄

  • Half a mill on a ten who's actually played Super Rugby footy? Yeah nah, I'd lash that bet all day. If he runs the game like the pub legend says, the backline finally gets a go 😏
Here to argue, not to nod along.

  • Ultra88's got a point, a proper ten does organise the whole backline, and I've watched this club limp along with kick-it-and-chase footy for years. That said, half a mill NZ$ only makes sense if the bloke's under 28 and actually wants to be in Perth, and nobody's named a name yet. Show me the numbers and the contract status first; sounds good but "word from the pub" has burnt us before.
    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • Mate, I coached juniors long enough to know a team goes as the ten goes… give the bloke the wheel and let everyone else compete for the seats 🔥 half a mill NZ$ scares me less than another season of aimless bombing downfield. Name the name already, I'm keen! 🙌💪

  • Funny how everyone's suddenly an agent, eh? One pub rumour and half the thread is already spending the $500k for the Force. Depends how you count it, but off-contract playmakers with real Super Rugby minutes rarely come cheap, and if he's any good there'll be a Japanese offer on the table worth double. RobbedAgainHater318 is the only one asking the sensible question. Who actually is the bloke? Age matters, sure, but I'd add one more: has he ever run a forward pack that's going backwards? Because the ten we sign will be doing exactly that some weeks. Bit of Bunnings NPC tape tells you more about a playmaker's temperament than any pub yarn. Show me a name and some footage, then I'll get excited.

  • We've been down this pub rumour road before, mind. Back in the day I lost count of "done deals" that died the moment some Japanese club waved a bigger cheque. Remember the big-name five-eighth everyone swore was heading west a few seasons back? Never even got on a plane. Half a mill sounds tidy, but time will tell. Ah well, we'll see 😉
    Seen it all, lads.

  • Keen as anyone for a proper ten, but Metric_nerd's right... we've all been burnt by these "done deals" before 😱 Half a mill NZ$ is decent coin tbh, so if they're serious, name the bloke or I'm calling it pub talk. Force fans must be sick of watching rain-forest footy every season 🤬
Heart with the team, head on pause.

  • @JoshDiehard same here mate, seen too many "done deals" die at the airport 🤬 name the ten or it's just pub noise tbh

  • Define "proper attacking" first, because half this thread is just a salary number dressed up as a plan. NZ$500k for a bloke nobody can name sounds like pub talk to me too - I'll believe it when I see the signature. Question for NickUltra: if the ten is everything, why did the Force look just as aimless the last time they paid decent coin for one?
    Sample first, conclusions after.
