Right, fellas, who do we chuck the chequebook at to fix that
Word is we've had a quiet sniff around a certain Reds openside who's apparently off contract, no names but you can guess π€‘ if the chequebook's real. Wouldn't take much, bloke's a genuine fetcher and our breakdown was embarrassing last season. If we can't land him, mind handing me the TAB number for the wooden spoon multi? π

βA quiet sniff around an unnamed Reds openside? Who's your source, your barber? Show me the numbers or an actual name before I get excited.Sample first, conclusions after.

Honestly, whoever that unnamed Reds bloke is, sign him yesterday π± our breakdown got smashed every time we played the Kiwi sides, remember the Chiefs just living at the ruck? you just know a proper fetcher changes all of that Fraser McReight-type in Brumbies colours at GIO, chopping down ball carriers, winning us penalties in the red zone, get in! π₯πͺ tbh I don't need sources or numbers, I watched us lose the collision every week last season. Chuck the chequebook at him, NZ$ whatever it takes, our lot never make it easy so let's make someone else suffer for once πHeart with the team, head on pause.

Right, my two cents as the bloke who keeps the table every round. If the speculation points where I think it does, a young Reds fetcher in his mid-20s, Test-capped - then logically it stacks up: right age bracket, right position, and the Reds are stacked at 7 anyway, so a move is at least plausible. What I'd temper is the "wouldn't take much" line. An established Super Rugby fetcher who's already attracted Wallabies interest won't come cheap, and our cap is already stretched across the tight five. I could be wrong, but I'd put the odds at maybe 40/60 against, purely because Rugby Wallabies tends to shuffle these players rather than let them cross conference lines. Still, even a partial fix at the breakdown changes how we match the Chiefs and co at the ruck, so if the money's there, I say have a real crack. πDo the math before you argue.

Mid-20s, Test-capped, off contract, that describes half the Reds backrow, Chris. Plausible isn't signed, and salary cap has a nuance here nobody's costed yet. πNumbers > vibes.

funny you blokes bring this up, because i've sat on this forum long enough to remember at least three "done deal" signings that never got past the sniff stage. one year we were all convinced a big-name wallaby flanker was brumbies-bound, posters were arguing over what number he'd wear. Ended up re-signing over the ditch for a fraction of what we were supposedly offering π doesn't mean this rumour's dust, mind. young test-capped fetcher off contract is exactly the sort of cheque you want to write, and our ruck numbers were ugly enough last season that you'd hope someone upstairs agrees. seen worse bets pay off. time will tell, as the old saying goes, and until there's ink on paper i'm keeping the enthusiasm in the same drawer i keep my 1991 replica jersey - mostly hopeful, slightly moth-eaten πBeen here longer than some have followed.

Done deal hype gets everyone every time π we had the same circus with a bloke "signed" who never even left Queensland. If the Reds are stacked at 7 though, makes sense they'd let one go... still gutted thinking about our own fetcher hunt tbh π₯Heart with the team, head on pause.

God the "done deal" trauma is real π remember celebrating a signing on here once that fell through days later, never again tbh But nah, if a young Test-capped fetcher is genuinely off contract you go ALL in, cap nuance or not. Our lot never make it easy in the backrow stocks, and every province knows a good 7 wins you finals. Only worry is Brumbies cheque vs what the Reds can stack up with higher-ups whispering in his ear π€¬ did anyone actually cost what's left under their cap after the big re-signings? πͺπ₯One love, one side β€οΈ

@MillieFaithful gone all in? nah, that's how clubs blow the cap and end up scrimping everywhere else πΈ I've had multis die on the last leg too many times to trust a "done deal" before the paperwork's actually signed. Pay properly for a proven fetcher, sure, but keep something back for the scrum and a kicker - you need the whole ticket to land, just one leg doesn't get you paid πΊBankroll discipline wins.
