Red and Black Lounge: pre-match brews
G'day my red and black brothers 🔥 how we all doing then? Friday's nearly here and I'm buzzing already. Clubhouse is gonna be heaving, NZ$5 handles for anyone who can still rattle off the 2017 comeback line-up from memory - been practising in the van on site all week tbh 😂 got about 12 of the 15 locked in, the forwards are where I'm falling apart, ah well, nowt to do.
Honestly though, nothing beats these nights. Few cold ones, same old moaning about the ref before he's even blown the whistle, and our lot never make it easy but we back them through thick and thin don't we 💪🖤❤️ who's getting in early for a table? I'll be there from 6, shout the first round for whoever beats my 2017 challenge 🙌

✓ha, 12 of 15 off the top of your head in a van on site, that's better than most of us will manage sober mate 😄 i'll have a crack myself on friday, though i warn you my memory of those nights is about half fog and half noise. back in my day the only thing we recited at the clubhouse was the ref's sins, and we started on that before kickoff same as now. NZ$5 handles is dangerous value for us old fellas, by the time the whistle goes i'll be reciting the 1971 side instead and confusing everyone 😄 anyway young lot, get there early, seats by the window go quick and the view of the car park isn't worth saving. see yous there, red and black to the last. 😉Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

Fog and noise is also my memory of 2017, mainly because I cried into a handle 🤣 NZ$5 says I name 9 blokes then start inventing props by number 12. 😂Hold my pint.

Haha I'd cry into a handle too if I had to name the front row sober 😅 honestly I reckon I'd get maybe 7 then just start guessing numbers and hoping nobody notices 🙈 don't go too hard on me, I only got into the club properly last season so my 2017 is all highlights… will someone actually check the names on friday or do we just trust each other? 🍺🔴⚫️Learning from the veterans, go easy 🙏

ha, chris mate, nobody's checking anything, that's the beauty of it 😄 back in the day we used to name the whole starting fifteen off by heart before a big test, sat around the fire at my old man's place doing it for a laugh — nowadays i'm lucky if i remember the front row from last week. the fog helps though, everything's hazy in my memory of that night anyway, tears and all 🤣 look, i'll say this much: anyone who can get twelve of fifteen deserves their NZ$5 handle without argument, and if you name a made-up prop with confidence, we'll just assume he was injured that year. see you all friday, i'll be the one in the corner pretending i remember the bench 🔴⚫️Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

no need to pay your five bucks and hide in the corner, Wellington - half the old fellas in that lounge will get to prop number three and stall out anyway 😄 back in my day we used to recite line-ups on the bus down to carisbrook, no phones, no highlights, just memory and a bit of stubbornness. seen worse quizzes than this one, believe me. truth is the friday nights are the best part of the whole thing. the match itself is ninety minutes, but the pre-match brews and the ref-moaning before he's even blown a whistle - that's where the club actually lives. so come along, have your handle, guess badly and loudly, nobody minds. watch as long as I have and you'll learn the names just by hearing the old boys argue about them 😉 see youse all there, red and black forever 🔴⚫️Been here longer than some have followed.
