Honest question, fam: is the Drua's swashbuckling running game

Fijian Drua
Chaos we've dressed up as philosophy, hard out 😏 22 points in fifteen minutes in Lautoka was magic, sure, but four tries off our own loose offloads is just skills falling apart under pressure and we keep calling it "style". If you can show me a structure underneath it I'll happily cop it, but I've watched every minute and all I see is vibe. Put my money where my doubt is with the TAB every week and the Drua still owe me. Funny that πŸ€‘πŸ’Έ

Four tries off our own mistakes, yes, but 22 in fifteen minutes doesn't happen by accident. Source on the chaos claim?

  • That Lautoka spell was pure intent, the offloads work every week in training πŸ”₯ Four tries is execution fatiguing late, not chaos. Heart says it all, bro πŸ’ͺ

  • I keep my own table on this stuff, and the Lautoka tape actually backs GloryDays here. Those 22 points in fifteen minutes didn't come from anyone throwing hopeful passes. They came off structured first-phase, quick recycle, forwards hitting the line at pace before the Chiefs' defence could set. That's coaching, full stop. πŸ“Š The four tries we conceded are where I'd push back on Josh though. They weren't all late fatigue, at least a couple came from offloads thrown when there was no run available, under pressure early in the second spell. Caveat: one half of one match is a tiny sample, so I won't crown a thesis on it. But if the offload is a choice made off a read, we'll see it dry up against sides that rush us. Watch the next few rounds. If it's just skill error, it shows up randomly. To me it looked like a mix of both, weighted towards choices.
    Numbers > vibes.

  • seen worse than this debate, fellas. even in the old amateur days the running sides copped "no structure" til they won something. boot's tape read matches my eye, intent, not luck πŸ˜‰
Been here longer than some have followed.

  • honestly i've watched running footy since the amateur days and those offloads looked like intent gone a bit loose, nothing more. fix the hands and the magic stays. ah well, we'll see πŸ˜„
    Seen it all, lads.

  • BootToBallGuru's tape read is the first thing in this thread with receipts, so I'll go along with it halfway. Question for the intent crowd though: if the offloads are trained, why do four of them turn into Chiefs tries in one spell? Fatigue explains dropped handles, it doesn't explain throwing them into double coverage. Fix the decision-making and I'll believe the magic is a tactic.

  • Halfback_Kiwi asking the right question there, and BootToBallGuru's tape read is the most honest thing in this thread so far. The intent crowd is correct that the 22-point burst came off structure, forwards onto the ball at pace, clean recycle, but I'd add a caveat: a fifteen-minute sample tells you what worked that afternoon, nothing about sustainability over a season. One hot spell is a highlight reel; eighty minutes a week for a full campaign is where the hands either hold up or they don't. And on why four offloads died against the Chiefs - fatigue is my read. Skill execution drops when the lungs go, and the same pass that looks brave in minute 50 looks reckless in minute 65. I tracked something similar in my own spreadsheet across the season (yes, I'm that guy πŸ“Š): turnover rate after our loose offloads climbs noticeably late in halves. Small sample though, one match tells you very little on its own. Fix conditioning and decision-making under tired legs, and the magic stays.

  • Halfback_Kiwi's question answers itself though - the Chiefs knew exactly where the offloads were coming and still couldn't stop the 22-point burst, so which side was actually guessing? 😏 Put it on the line at the TAB next season and watch how many punters fade the Drua in Lautoka; the market rates our chaos plenty. Tidy the hands up and that magic stays, sure thing, mate πŸ€‘πŸ’Έ

  • I've been keeping my own numbers on this, and honestly the sample's too thin to call it either way, one fifteen-minute spell against the Chiefs proves nothing about trained intent yet. πŸ“Š
    Numbers > vibes.
