Word is that Nadi-born playmaker might be off-contract once the NRC wraps up. Heard it from a mate who knows someone at the union, so grain of salt and all that. If there's any truth to it, we should be first in line with a proper offer before someone bigger pinches him. Two things worth checking before we all chip in petrol money: his age, because a playmaker on a short deal usually wants game time guaranteed, and whether Drua even run the shape that suits a NRC-style 10. Our attack lives off quick recycle and width, the NRC defences he's been picking apart are softer than Super Rugby Pacific edges, so I'd hedge the hype a fair bit. That said, the economics actually stack up. Sub-NZ$150k for a domestic-calibre fly-half is roughly what a serviceable squad 10 costs here, so if the off-contract whisper has any smoke, we'd be silly not to make the call. Nick's got a point about the fit, though. Saw that NPC game Supporter_88 mentions and the bloke ran everything off first receiver, which is fine if we're actually going to play that shape instead of the rush-it-wide stuff we've been dishing up. Guaranteed game time matters more than the NZ$150k to a bloke his age, I'd reckon. Happy to be wrong, mind, my old man reckons I've never once backed a signing before he'd played ten games for us.
