Fijian Drua
i remember when the drua first came into this comp, half the blokes down at the club reckoned they'd get pumped every week and be gone inside two seasons. funny how things turn out eh. that afternoon in lautoka when the crusaders came to town, i was at my mate's place and by fulltime the whole street could hear us yelling. the young lot never saw the crusaders in their pomp, they don't realise what a scalp that was. bigger they are, harder they fall 😄 takes me back too, because i still remember vidiri and caucaunibuca lighting it up for the blues in the late nineties, that pure fijian flair that got you off the couch. this drua mob carry the same spirit, villages feeding into one jersey like the whole of fiji is out there running with them. makes an old front rower proud, and long may it run. c'mon drua!

Same blokes who wrote them off were probably on the punt against the Crusaders that day in Lautoka 😂🔥 Watching that upset at my mates place, we went mental. Ah well, nowt to do 🙌

  • that lautoka afternoon still sticks with me. watched it at my brother's place, and when the whistle went we just looked at each other like two stunned mullets 😄 you could feel the whole village crowd singing through the telly. ah well, we'll see, but days like that never leave you.
    Seen it all, lads.

  • That 2022 side had something the current squad is still finding, I reckon - nobody knew how to play them yet, so the offloads just kept coming and defenders were second-guessing everything. Now every team studies the tape and sits on our width, so the boys have had to add a tighter game to survive. Which isn't a knock on the current lot, mind. Hard out, going from feel-the-momentum to being a team everyone plans against is the harder road, and they're walking it. The village spirit is the same in both eras though. That's the constant. Different challenge, same pride. 📊

  • I lost a NZ$20 multi that day and have never been happier about losing money 😂 village boys turning the Crusaders over in Lautoka, worth every cent.

@Chur_Kiwi mate that's the only time a losing multi feels like a win 😂 I had Drua in a head-to-head double at decent odds that arvo, cashed my leg and stubbed the Crusaders leg, still couldn't be salty. Bet against them now at your peril though - the line's stopped gifting value since everyone worked out what Lautoka does to visitors 💸

@TrueBeliever_HQ that sounds like the best way to lose a multi 😄 sorry if this is a daft question but did you actually cash out mid-match or after the whistle? Still new to all this, went easy on the TAB myself that day. Anyway I'm with you - teams going to Lautoka now would want to take Drua seriously, right?
Learning from the veterans, go easy 🙏

tbh @FixIsInPTSD, yeah the sheer chaos of their early offloads was just wild to watch, proper messy rugby. It’s frustrating we were so slow to figure out their patterns back then 😤. Now they’ve adapted and they’re getting smarter, which is good for the league all round I reckon. We gotta keep those hard-hitting provincial forwards ready for anything though.
    One love, one side ❤️
