From the village greens to the Super Rugby stage
i remember watching Fijian rugby back in the day when the boys all came through village footie and club rep sides, no money in it, just pride and a guitar after the match. then that Suva night against the Crusaders, i was up late here in Tauranga yelling at the telly, rang my old clubmate first thing, we both just laughed like lunatics. the young lot never saw how far this thing has travelled, eh 😉

✓Was watching in my mate's lounge in Palmy, phone buzzing nonstop 😂 rang my uncle first thing, he lost it, we basically sang the whole night 🇫🇯❤️

that suva night, i was on the couch here in auckland ringing my old clubmate in nadi before the anthem even finished 😄 back in the day the boys used to play for a feed and a song after, and that night you could hear the whole island singing through the telly. My old man would've loved it, he watched the sevens boys come through the same villages. seen worse nights than that one, not many better either 😉Seen it all, trust me.

I could be wrong, but I reckon that 2022 side had a bit more mongrel about them, whereas this current crop are sharper on the ball and fitter across the eighty. Different beasts, same heartbeat though. Both built from those village greens and club rep days. I was on the phone to my cousin in Sigatoka that Suva night before the anthem even finished, so either way, the spirit hasn't gone anywhere 📊

NickDiehard, mate, more mongrel in 2022? I'd argue the opposite, that Suva night was pure fitness and swagger, the boys ran the Crusaders off their feet in that humidity. Small sample though, one famous evening versus a whole season of tape 📊 Either way, same heartbeat, you're right there.

The fitness bit makes sense to me though, humidity would knock anyone else over surely 🙌Daft questions are my specialty.
